Joe Thomas Lobbies For Browns To Pick Pass Rusher 1st Overall

Jan 26, 2017 4:34 PM

Joe Thomas is lobbying for the Cleveland Browns to take a pass rusher first overall instead of a quarterback.

Thomas would seem to be favoring Myles Garrett of Texas A&M.

"I would say you want to go defense," Thomas said Thursday on the Dan Patrick Show. "I think you need to get a pass-rusher."

Thomas' take was interesting because he has stressed the importance of identifying and developing a franchise quarterback.

The Browns have had 18 starting quarterbacks since he was the third overall pick in the 2007 draft.

Jabrill Peppers Leaving Michigan For 2017 NFL Draft

Jan 10, 2017 3:13 PM

Jabrill Peppers is leaving Michigan to declare for the 2017 NFL Draft.

Peppers earned the reputation as one of the elite players in college football in 2016 after switching from defensive back to a hybrid safety/linebacker.

“It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do,” Peppers said. “I’m choosing between cementing my legacy as a college player and starting my pro legacy. It’s something you dream of when you were a kid. I was torn between the two.”

Peppers informed Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh of his decision in a meeting in Harbaugh’s office on Monday.

“He thanked me and told me it was a pleasure to coach me,” Peppers said. “I told him it was a pleasure to play for him. He molded me for the next level, that’s how he operates. He runs his program like an NFL team. He’s done more than enough to prepare me for this moment.”

Jan 2, 2017 11:46 AM

Chip Kelly and others within the San Francisco 49ers wanted the team to draft Dak Prescott in 2016. Kelly thought he was a fit with the type of offense he likes to run.

Prescott was picked 135th overall in the fourth round by the Dallas Cowboys. Prescott led the Cowboys to the best record in the NFC as a rookie.

Trent Baalke instead used the 133rd pick on Rashard Robinson, a cornerback out of LSU.

Myles Garrett Leaving Texas A&M For 2017 NFL Draft

Jan 1, 2017 12:17 PM

Myles Garrett announced on Saturday that he will leave Texas A&M for the 2017 NFL Draft.

Garrett is widely expected to be one of the first few picks in the draft.

"After talking with my family and my coaches, I feel it is in my best interest to declare for the 2017 NFL draft," Garrett said in a statement. "I would like to thank my teammates for always supporting me, encouraging me and holding me accountable. We are a family and I will be close with these guys forever."

In 2014, Garrett broke Jadeveon Clowney's SEC freshman sack record with 11.5. Garrett was an Associated Press All-American in 2015 and '16.
