JC Tretter Voted NFLPA President

Mar 16, 2020 11:16 AM

JC Tretter has been elected NFL Players Association president.

Tretter beat out New York Giants defensive back Michael Thomas and Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Sam Acho for the position. He won by a majority of the board members in the room on the first vote, a source told ESPN.

Tretter has a degree in industrial labor relations from Cornell. He's entering his eighth NFL season and he's been the Browns' starting center for the past three seasons.

Tretter compiled a detailed list of potential drawbacks to the proposed CBA last week to balance the list of highlights that the NFLPA sent out.

Franchise Tag Deadline Moved To Monday

Mar 10, 2020 1:41 PM

The NFL has moved the franchise/transition tag deadline from Thursday at 4 PM to Monday at 11:59 AM.

By setting the tag deadline as noon, it allows for the period known as "legal tampering" to begin as scheduled on Monday. The start of the league year remains Wednesday, March 18.

Absent a new CBA, teams can use both a franchise and a transition tag on players.

Russell Okung Files Complaint Of Bad Faith Negotiating Against NFLPA

Mar 9, 2020 9:39 PM

Russell Okung has accused the National Football League Players Association of negotiating the proposed CBA in bad faith, taking the step of filing an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board.

In the filing, Okung is accusing NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith of pushing a vote on the new CBA through to the entire group of players despite the objections and vote of the NFLPA executive committee.

During a February vote, the executive committee voted 6-5 not to recommend the proposed CBA to players.
