Inglewood Stadium Complex Estimated To Cost Nearly $5 Billion

Mar 29, 2018 12:36 PM

The estimated cost of the entire Inglewood stadium project that will house the Rams and Chargers is approaching $5 billion.

That estimate covers construction of the stadium, nearby parking, a 6,000-seat performance theatre, infrastructure and other aspects of the larger 298-acre retail, office and entertainment district that the stadium will anchor.

The cost of the stadium alone was originally projected to cost $2.6 billion.

The NFL will also make the area their West Coast home base.

The privately funded project will host the Super Bowl LVI in 2022 and the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

“As home to the Rams and Chargers, and now NFL Media, the LA Stadium and Entertainment District will be an attraction for NFL fans year-round,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.  “Thanks to Stan’s vision, we know Hollywood Park will be the place to be – not just for football, but for entertainment and events, for living and for working.  We are excited for NFL Media to join this transformative project.”

Panthers Receive $2.5B Bid To Purchase Franchise

Mar 21, 2018 7:38 PM

Bidding for the Carolina Panthers has reached $2.5 billion.

Fanatics owner Michael Rubin is one of the bidders but he's reportedly not willing to go that high. Rubin's potential partners include Sean Combs and Stephen Curry.

Sources close to the process could not confirm to ESPN that the $2.5 billion is accurate. The Panthers are valued by Forbes at $2.3 billion.

Jerry Richardson put the Panthers up for sale following an NFL investigation into allegations of sexual and racial workplace misconduct.

New ESPN President's Top Priority Is Repairing NFL Relationship

Mar 12, 2018 7:25 PM

Multiple sources pointed to ESPN’s fraying relationship with the NFL as the top priority for new ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro.

Pitaro has already met with league executives despite being on the job for a few days.

The NFL always has had a hard time differentiating between ESPN the promotion arm and ESPN the media outlet.

Former president John Skipper did not engage with the people who matter at the NFL, like Roger Goodell and Brian Rolapp, executive vice president of media, sources said.

Jerry Jones has reimbursed the NFL for more than $2 million in legal fees.

"After a hearing with the Commissioner and the Finance Committee, the matter of the reimbursement of legal fees has been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties," the NFL said.

The NFL sought the reimbursement of the legal fees that were incurred in Ezekiel Elliott's fight of a six-game suspension and in the threat of a lawsuit to block Goodell's contract extension.

NFL Salary Cap For 2018 Set At $177.2M

Mar 5, 2018 11:09 PM

The NFL has set the salary cap for the 2018 season at $177.2 million, an increase from $167 million in 2017.

The NFL's cap has increased by at least $10 million for five straight seasons.

The 6.11 percent increase is the smallest percent increase for the cap from year to year since 2013's 1.99 percent jump.

The NFL's collective bargaining agreement allows teams to carry over unused cap space from one year to the next. It also establishes a spending floor.
