NFL Denies Deal With Jerry Jones Over Litigation Threat

Nov 28, 2017 12:19 PM

Jerry Jones seemed to hint at a quid pro quo when he said last week that he won't sue over Roger Goodell's anticipated contract extension.

“I told the [Compensation] Committee that I was standing down on legal action because they wanted to get input from all of the owners,” Jones told Jarrett Bell of USA Today.

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said that no promise was made to submit the Goodell contract to all owners for input and/or approval in order to avoid a threat of litigation from Jones.

Goodell's extension is expected to be approved in December.

Competition Committee Denies Jerry Jones' Request For Vote On Goodell

Nov 20, 2017 5:54 PM

The NFL's compensation committee has denied a request from Jerry Jones to allow a final vote of approval on the contract extension of Roger Goodell.

The committee also reiterated Monday that Jones should drop his threat to sue the league over Goodell's deal.

Goodell is on track to sign his extension at or before the owners' meetings in Dallas on Dec. 13th.

Jones threatened to sue the league if the committee approves an extension, saying it should be reviewed and approved by all owners. Goodell's current deal as commissioner is set to expire after the 2018 season.

Jones To Goodell: I'm Gonna Come After You With Everything I Have

Nov 17, 2017 1:41 PM

Jerry Jones told associates that Roger Goodell assured him last spring that there would be no suspension for Ezekiel Elliott.

When Jones was told by Goodell that Elliott would be suspended for six games, there was initially silence and then anger.

"I'm gonna come after you with everything I have," Jones said.

Jones then referenced Deflategate.

"If you think Bob Kraft came after you hard, Bob Kraft is a p---y compared to what I'm going to do."

Jones has since questioned the leadership of Goodell and is even trying to block his extension.

NFLPA Investing In Dementia Discovery Fund

Nov 16, 2017 11:10 AM

The NFL Players Association is investing in Dementia Discovery Fund, the group that Bill Gates recently made a $100 million investment in.

The DDF is focused on discovering and developing treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, in particular those that are associated with dementia.

“This union has been vigilant about its commitment to the long-term health, safety and well-being of our players,” NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith said. “For the same reason that we instituted rule changes, concussion protocols and pay for post career neurological benefits, our capital investment in this fund complements our current investment initiatives with the Harvard Football Players Health Study.

“I am proud of the work we do to protect our current and former members and aid the overall health of everyone suffering from neurological conditions.”

Doctors Believes They Can Now Detect CTE In Living People

Nov 15, 2017 7:08 PM

Dr. Julian Bailes, a NorthShore neurosurgeon, said they believe they can now detect CTE in living people.

In a paper published last week in the journal Neurosurgery, Bailes and other researchers reported that one of the former players who had undergone a scan while he was alive, had his brain examined after he died the tissue revealed he had been suffering from CTE.

The condition is associated with repetitive head trauma and results in dementia like symptoms.

Bailes said it could be a key step in finding a way to help people with the condition.

NFL's Chief Medical Officer Defends Colts On Brissett Concussion

Nov 14, 2017 4:30 PM

The chief medical officer of the NFL defended the way the Indianapolis Colts treated Jacoby Brissett.

Brissett was placed into the NFL's concussion protocol when he reported symptoms after the game.

"All of our protocols were followed," Dr. Allen Sills said Tuesday on a league conference call. Sills added that Brissett "had no symptoms" and that there were "no findings" during the game to prevent him from returning to play.

Brissett passed three separate concussion tests, two during the game and one immediately afterward. He said it is not unusual for concussion symptoms to evolve and emerge in a delayed fashion.

Brissett reported the onset of what Sills said were "mild" symptoms about 20 or 30 minutes after the game.

"Out of an abundance of caution," he was placed in the protocol, Sills said.

Jerry Jones Not Backing Down From Challenging Goodell's Extension

Nov 14, 2017 2:44 PM

Jerry Jones will not back off his threat of suing the NFL over Roger Goodell's extension as commissioner.

Goodell's contract is set to expire after the 2018 season.

"He's served about 60 percent, roughly, 65 percent of this contract," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday. "He has 18 months left on there. We've got all the time in the world to evaluate what we're doing. We've got all the time in the world to extend him. We just need to slow this train down and have a lot of time to discuss the issues at hand in the NFL and have a good, fair input from all the owners, which we're not getting."

Jones denied a report from the New York Times that he's been given a cease-and-desist notice from the NFL's compensation committee.

Owners Send Cease-And-Desist To Jerry Jones

Nov 13, 2017 5:51 PM

Jerry Jones has been given a cease-and-desist warning by several of his fellow NFL owners over his efforts to block Roger Goodell's extension as commissioner.

Jones threatened to sue the NFL and owners on the compensation committee.

The NFL could take a range of measures against Jones including fines, lost draft picks and even a suspension.

“The committee is continuing its work towards finalizing a contract extension with the commissioner,” the compensation committee chairman, Falcons owner Arthur Blank, said in a statement on Monday. “The negotiations are progressing and we will keep ownership apprised of the negotiations as they move forward. We do not intend to publicly comment on our discussions.”

Jones has said that he is trying to make Goodell’s contract talks more transparent in light of what he calls recent missteps by the league office, including how it has handled the protests by players.

Jerry Jones Has Limited Support In Battle Against Roger Goodell

Nov 12, 2017 9:39 AM

Jerry Jones only has three of his fellow owners supporting him in his fight against Roger Goodell.

Jones threatened to sue the NFL and other owners over Goodell getting a new contract extension.

Sources suggest that "at best" Jones has maybe three other owners in his corner that Goodell should go while he would require 24 votes.

Seahawks Expected To Face Scrutiny Over Russell Wilson Concussion Test

Nov 10, 2017 9:51 AM

The Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson are expected to face scrutiny over a possible violation of NFL policy when he was sent off the field for a concussion check.

Wilson absorbed a hit to the chin from linebacker Karlos Dansby. Wilson did not show any obvious signs of a concussion, but referee Walt Anderson invoked his right to send Wilson off the field for a test.

With backup Austin Davis in the game, NBC's broadcast showed Wilson running to the sideline and then sitting down in the area where the tent would be pulled over him. But Wilson got back up before medical officials had a chance to join him and then replaced Davis after one play.

After the game, Wilson said he wasn't concussed on the hit and felt "completely clear."
