Chiefs Superfan Ordered To Pay $10.8M To Former Bank Teller

Apr 9, 2024 8:24 AM

A judge has ordered the Kansas City Chiefs superfan who committed a series of bank robberies to pay $10.8 million to a Bixby, Oklahoma, teller he threatened with a gun in December 2022.

Tulsa County District Judge Tracy L. Priddy ordered Xaviar Babudar, widely known as Chiefsaholic, to pay Payton Garcia, the former teller, $3.6 million for inflicting physical harm and emotional distress and $7.2 million in punitive damages.

Babudar, 29, built a large social media following, cultivating the image of an ambitious, generous young man who enjoyed gambling, Kansas State sports and, most of all, the Chiefs. However, an ESPN investigation revealed that much of what he portrayed about himself online was not true.

Babudar was first arrested Dec. 16, 2022, in Bixby, after fleeing the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union, where he pointed at black CO2 pistol at Garcia and demanded she give him "the 100s" or he'd put a bullet in her head, according to Bixby police.

Draft Prospect T'Vondre Sweat Arrested For DWI

Apr 8, 2024 8:40 AM

One of the top defensive prospects in this month's NFL Draft, Texas product T'Vondre Sweat, has been arrested.

Sweat, 22, was detained in Austin, Texas, early Sunday after police arrested the defensive lineman on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.

Texas law mandates that a Class B misdemeanor, which is what he faces, is punishable by up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.

The expectation was that Sweat would be either a first- or second-round pick.

Kansas Beginning Efforts To Lure Chiefs From Missouri

Apr 4, 2024 9:26 AM

According to a report, Kansas has begun efforts to get the Chiefs to build a new stadium in the state.

Specifically, former Kansas House Speaker Ron Ryckman, Jr. is "quietly working" with "unnamed parties" who are interested in getting the Chiefs to make a short move across the state line from Missouri.

The news comes after a proposal to fund a renovation to Arrowhead Stadium with an extension of an existing sales tax failed badly at the ballot box.

"Jackson County fumbled. Now there will be a mad scramble for the ball and we're in the best position for a scoop and score," Ryckman said.

Missouri Voters Reject Stadium Tax For Chiefs, Royals

Apr 3, 2024 10:12 AM

The residents of Jackson County, Missouri resoundingly voted down a sales tax measure that would have helped to fund a new downtown ballpark for the Kansas City Royals along with major renovations to Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Chiefs.

Royals owner John Sherman and Chiefs president Mark Donovan acknowledged long before the final tally that the initiative would fail.

More than 58% of voters rejected the plan, which would have replaced three-eighths of a cent sales tax that has been paying for the upkeep of Truman Sports Complex -- the home for more than 50 years to Kauffman and Arrowhead Stadiums -- with a similar tax that would have been in place for the next 40 years.

Donovan said the Chiefs would do "what is in the best interest of our fans and our organization as we move forward."

Apr 2, 2024 8:49 AM

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is cooperating with authorities in Dallas after a speeding Corvette and Lamborghini sport utility vehicle caused a chain-reaction crash on a busy Dallas highway Saturday, according to his attorney.

"On behalf of Rashee Rice, his thoughts are with everyone impacted by the automobile accident on Saturday," attorney Royce West said in a statement. "Rashee is cooperating with local authorities and will take all necessary steps to address this situation responsibly."

Six vehicles were involved in the crash shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of North Central Expressway, Dallas police said.

The people in the Lamborghini and Corvette left the scene without determining if anyone needed medical attention or providing their information, police said. Two of the drivers in the other vehicles were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and two occupants of another vehicle were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Cardinals Ordered To Pay Terry McDonough $3M For Defamation

Apr 1, 2024 11:59 PM

An NFL arbitrator ordered the Arizona Cardinals to pay $3 million to former executive Terry McDonough for "false and defamatory" statements the team made about him to the media, according to a decision filed in federal court on Monday.

In a 62-page decision dated March 29, Jeffrey Mishkin, the arbitrator appointed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, determined the Cardinals and their owner, Michael Bidwill, defamed McDonough "with malice" in a multipage statement to media organizations that accused McDonough of spousal abuse and neglect of his disabled adult daughter -- allegations McDonough has denied.

Wanted For Weeks, Cameron Sutton Turns Himself In

Apr 1, 2024 8:41 AM

Veteran NFL cornerback Cameron Sutton, wanted for weeks by police in Florida for his alleged involvement in a domestic violence case, turned himself in Sunday.

Police had been unable to locate Sutton since March 7, when an arrest warrant was issued for him. They had responded to a call early that morning at a house in Lutz, Florida, where Sutton allegedly battered a woman before fleeing the scene.

"After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Domestic violence has no place in our community, and no one is above the law here in Hillsborough County."

Sutton is facing a charge of domestic battery by strangulation, a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Sutton, 29, joined the Detroit Lions as an unrestricted free agent in 2023 on a three-year, $33 million contract after spending his first six NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Lions released him March 21, the day after the team found out about the warrant for his arrest.
