Ed Reed Trying To Get Off PUP

Oct 30, 2014 11:38 AM

Ravens safety Ed Reed called the NFLPA last week in an attempt to reduce his mandatory six-week inactive stint on the PUP list. "I thought I could have got it reduced," said Reed, who is recovering from offseason hip surgery and won't be allowed to play before the Oct. 24 game against the Bills. "Maybe I should've called [commissioner Roger] Goodell. It's all in the game. You've got to abide by the rules and all I can do is take advantage of this time, and I know these guys are going to do their jobs."

NFL Won't Allow Bills Fan To Serve Bowling Ball Shots

Jun 5, 2014 4:06 PM

The NFL is interceding in the tailgate of a Bills fan. After 21 years of tailgating in the same lot outside Ralph Wilson Stadium, Ken Johnson plans to take his party across the street starting with the next home game in two weeks. Johnson has a tradition of drinking shots of Polish cherry liqueur out of the thumbhole of a bowling ball. "It disappoints me that I have to move away from a lot where I've been for about 20 years, but I saw it coming a long time ago," said Johnson. "I have known for a long time that they want to sanitize Lot 1 and turn it into a family lot."

Welker: Rehab Could Take Another Year

Jun 27, 2014 8:19 PM

Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker says that it could take a full year before he's 100 percent back to the player he was before tearing his ACL last January. "I don't know if I can really put a number on it," Welker said when asked how he feels. "It takes a full year until I'm me again, is what they say. I'm just trying to take it a day at a time and do what I can with what I got right now." Welker added that he hopes to shed his knee brace at some point this year. "I'm definitely ready to get rid of it," he said. "At the same time, we're going to be cautious with it."

Portis Quiet On Female Reporters

Oct 31, 2014 2:59 PM

Redskins running back Clinton Portis is no longer discussing female reporters. When asked about his remarks at his weekly media availability, Portis held up a notebook with the words "NO COMMENT" written on it. Washington defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth put a piece of black athletic tape on Portis' mouth. It was on a radio show Tuesday that Portis tried to explain the dynamics of having female reporters in NFL locker rooms. "I think you put women reporters in the locker room in position to see guys walking around naked, and you sit in the locker room with 53 guys, and all of the sudden you see a nice woman in the locker room. I think men are going to tend to turn and look and want to say something to that woman," he said. Portis continued: "You know, somebody got to spark her interest, or she's going to want somebody. I don't know what kind of woman won't, if you get to go and look at 53 men's packages. I know you're doing a job, but at the same time, the same way I'm going to cut my eye if I see somebody worth talking to, I'm sure they do the same thing."
