NFL commissioner Roger Goodell believes that the draft's new format will remain in place. Goodell also spoke about the possibility of holding the draft in other cities aside from New York.

Bills Rookie Makes Chinese History

Nov 28, 2014 3:36 PM

Bills rookie offensive tackle Ed Wang is the first full-blooded Chinese descendant in NFL history. Wang was born and grew up in Northern Virginia, but his parents, George and Nancy, are both native to China. "It's really important to me," he told the Buffalo News. "It means a lot to me that I was able to be the first one to do it, so I took a lot of pride in that." Kailee Wong, former Vikings linebacker, and Pat Chung, a safety drafted last year by the Patriots, are also of some Chinese descent. Buffalo took Wang in the fifth round.

NFLPA: Interviews Can't Cross Line

Jul 4, 2014 10:10 PM

NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said Wednesday the treatment of Dez Bryant and other prospective draft picks needs to be conducted in a professional manner. Smith was reacting to Bryant being asked if his mother was a prostitute by Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland during an interview in March. "We need to make sure the men of this league are treated as businessmen," Smith said in a statement. "During interviews, our players and prospective players should never be subjected to discrimination or degradation stemming from the biases or misconceptions held by team personnel. NFL teams cannot have the free reign to ask questions during the interview process which can be categorized as stereotyping or which may bring a personal insult to any player as a man."

Miami's Ireland Apologizes To Bryant

Nov 23, 2014 8:23 AM

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland has apologized to Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant for asking whether his mother was a prostitute during a pre-draft visit. David Wells, Bryant's advisor, said Tuesday that the former Oklahoma State wide receiver was asked about his mother during a visit to the Dolphins in March. "My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player that I'm considering drafting. Sometimes that leads to asking in-depth questions," Ireland said Tuesday in a statement released by the Dolphins. "Having said that, I talked to Dez Bryant and told him I used poor judgment in one of the questions I asked him. I certainly meant no disrespect and apologized to him."

Russell Could Land In NFC East

Oct 24, 2014 6:34 AM

Peter King of Sports Illustrated writes that if the Raiders do ultimately cut quarterback JaMarcus Russell loose, it's quite possible that he could land in the NFC East. Washington lacks depth at the position after dealing Jason Campbell to Oakland and Philadelphia's stable of quarterbacks is still in flux following the Donovan McNabb trade.

Hall: Redskins Will Dominate NFC East

Aug 1, 2014 7:00 AM

Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall is very optimistic about the team's chances heading into the 2010 season. Hall believes that Washington could win 11 or 12 games after adding players through the draft and trading for quarterback Donovan McNabb. "It's based on the talent we feel like we've got," he said. "It's based on the improvements I feel like we've made. It's based on the scheme. The scheme alone is gonna give us four or five more wins. The games we lost by two, three points, we'll win those games, easy. "We'll dominate our division, off of bringing Donovan McNabb in here, a guy who's dominated the division in the past. So that's just an educated guess. That's an educated guess, and I stand behind. I'll stand behind that. I'll fight and claw to try to make that happen."

Oklahoma Coach Questions Work Ethic Of Trent Williams

May 17, 2014 8:26 AM

Jerry Schmidt, Oklahoma's director of sports enhancement, questions the work ethic of Redskins rookie left tackle Trent Williams. "He's one of those guys, he's definitely not a gym rat. If he was, there wouldn't be anybody even close to him," Schmidt said. "If he really committed himself, it wouldn't even be close. He'd be the best ever. That's how much talent he's got. There's a lot of talent there that he just hasn't tapped." Schmidt gushed about the talent Williams possesses. "He's got a lot of natural, God-given ability. He's got great feet, balance, which allows him to play both guard and tackle," Schmidt said. "Even as a young player, you could tell right away how talented he was. He has a great upper-body, just real natural strength. You look at him, the way he runs, there's not many athlete that big who can run like that. He's a very talented guy." Washington took Williams with the fourth overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft.
