Ryan: Clemens Opens Camp As Jets' QB

May 16, 2014 11:19 PM

Jets coach Rex Ryan says that veteran quarterback Kellen Clemens will open training camp as the team's starter. "Kellen Clemens will be No. 1 (on the depth chart), (Mark) Sanchez will be two and (Erik) Ainge will be three," Ryan said Thursday. "There is going to be a competition. Clemens going in will get the first reps, and Sanchez will get twos." Ryan made it clear that there is no guarantee that Clemens will hold onto the top spot. "We are going to give Sanchez the chance to be with the ones as well," Ryan said. "I would say that it will be an open competition. We will evaluate them every day. We'll see how it progresses throughout the summer."

No Deal Imminent For Eli Manning

Jun 13, 2014 4:57 AM

The Giants are focused on signing all of their rookies, and appear to have put a contract extension for Eli Manning on the back burner. A source close to the negotiations told Newsday that no deal is imminent between the Giants and their franchise quarterback. Both sides would still prefer to have a deal in place before Manning becomes a free agent after the 2009 season, but the only timeline the source gave Newsday was that something would be reached "eventually."

Boldin Will Allow Agent To Handle Deal

Jun 7, 2014 8:45 PM

Anquan Boldin says that he will allow his agent to handle his long-running contract dispute with the Cardinals. "That's irrelevant," Boldin said Thursday when asked if he felt the team was being straight with him. "How I feel isn't going to change a thing." Almost a year ago Boldin ripped the team and was very vocal about his desire for a better deal. During the offseason, Boldin switched agents from Drew Rosenhaus to Tom Condon. "Business, that's all," Boldin said of the agent switch. "I still have a great relationship with Drew. My younger brother, a couple of guys I mentor, they're still with Drew, so there's still a great relationship between me and him. I still think he's one of the hardest-working dudes in the business but that was just a business decision."

Source: Raiders Release Andrew Walter

Sep 7, 2014 12:20 PM

The Raiders have released quarterback Andrew Walter, according to a source. Walter, a third-round choice in 2005, was the odd man out with veterans Jeff Garcia, Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye behind starter JaMarcus Russell. "I'm very excited for a fresh start," Walter said. "We'll see what happens. The only thing different that I would have hoped for is that it would have happened earlier. Things haven't changed since February and it occurred just now."
