Haslett Could Coach Rams In 2009

Nov 8, 2014 3:45 PM

Jim Haslett, who replaced Scott Linehan as coach of the Rams this week, could remain with the team through the 2009 season. No "interim" tag has been placed on his title with the team, and if the Rams respond to his presence over the final three months of the season, he'll likely return. "Right now, I'm worrying about this year," Haslett said. "Coaches live year-to-year, anyway. So I'm going to worry about this year and these next 12 games and try to win some games."

Nolan: TE Davis Is Too Emotional

Oct 27, 2014 3:42 PM

49ers coach Mike Nolan believes that Vernon Davis is too emotional after the young tight end made a scene on the sideline this past Sunday. Davis gestured wildly, insinuating that he wants more passes thrown his way. "It was just me being me," Davis said Monday. "That's what this game is about. It's about competing and dominating your opponents every time. But you have to have the opportunity." Nolan yanked Davis off the field after the incident and told him to calm down. He never returned to the action over the final 6:20 of a 31-17 loss to the Saints. "Any player that's in that kind of mode, I don't think it's best to stay on the field," Nolan said afterward.

Eagles Robbed Of A Touchdown Against Bears?

Sep 15, 2014 10:48 AM

The experts at Football Outsiders have determined, using a overhead blimp shot, that Eagles' running back Correll Buckhalter scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter against the Bears on Sunday night. A photo on the Outsiders' website reveals that a majority of the ball crossed the plane. Buckhalter ran on fourth-and-one with less than four minutes left and didn't appear as though he reached the end zone. The aforementioned blimp photo, clearly shows that the football crossed the goal line.

Ricky Admits He Was Tempted To Smoke Pot During Bye Week

Oct 29, 2014 12:56 AM

Dolphins' running back Ricky Williams admitted on Monday that he was tempted to smoke marijuana during the team's bye weekend. "Most definitely," Williams said. "It's greater because, like, Thursday, Coach told us we had Friday off, so automatically your mind, which is so constrained since training camp began -- every day is a grind, it's a grind, it's a grind -- and then Coach says 'you're free.' And the mind says, 'I'm free, what can I do?'" "So there was definitely an urge. But I just thought about what I have to lose, and it was easy. The urge didn't last very long." Williams has been in the NFL's substance-abuse program since 2002, having tested positive four times. He said he successfully combated the urge by meditating. "I've done a lot of work at understanding myself a little bit more," Williams said. "So I recognize [the urge] was just a result of the feeling of being free, and I was just trying to maximize it. And I realize that I really enjoy meditating and when I can go home and sit in my room and meditate, I can get the same feeling." Williams is tested nine times per month on a random basis. The man who administers the tests for the league sometimes shows up at Williams' home before dawn. "I'd be lying if I said I'm never going to do it again after I'm done [playing]," Williams added. "I don't know. I don't spend much time thinking about it."

Phillips Says Cowboys Need To Run More

Oct 8, 2014 12:41 AM

Cowboys' Coach Wade Phillips says that they need to start running the ball more after they attempted just eleven runs in their loss to the Redskins on Sunday. "We didn?t run the ball enough in the ballgame," Phillips said. "That?s my fault. We do have audibles at the line of scrimmage; in some games we audible out of running plays. In this game, we probably audibled out of too many." In Week Three, Dallas ran for 217 yards against Green Bay. "We need to run Marion Barber up in there, and we can still run against an eight-man front, and if he breaks through there, he?ll make a big play for us," Phillips said. The Cowboys will face the Bengals this Sunday.
