Chris Long Retiring After 11 NFL Seasons

May 19, 2019 8:33 AM

Chris Long is retiring after 11 seasons in the NFL.

Long spent much of the offseason weighing whether to retire or play another season.

The Eagles released a statement congratulating Long, saying, in part, "He will always be part of the Eagles family."

"There aren't many players who can say they won back-to-back Super Bowls and the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year award," the Eagles said. "There's no question that his work ethic combined with his unique talent made him into one of the greatest of this era's professional athletes. We're very thankful Chris chose to play for the Philadelphia Eagles."

Texans Release Ryan Griffin Following Vandalism Incident In Nashville

May 18, 2019 8:34 AM

The Houston Texans have released Ryan Griffin.

Griffin is facing charges of vandalism and public intoxication for allegedly punching out a front window in a hotel last month in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Texans also selected tight end Kahale Warring out of San Diego State in the third round.

Police say Griffin, 29, was arrested for his own safety rather than given misdemeanor citations.

Griffin had 24 receptions for 305 yards last season with Houston and has 136 career receptions and seven touchdowns in six seasons.

Adam Gase's Passive-Aggressive Power Struggle Led To Maccagnan Exit

May 17, 2019 6:33 PM

New York Jets CEO Christopher Johnson had reservations about retaining Mike Maccagnan as general manager after the season.

But the firing of Maccagnan is believed to have been triggered by Adam Gase winning a passive-aggressive power struggle.

Gase tried to distance himself from the Jets' draft decisions even before it began. Gase rarely gave input on trade possibilities or prospects. Gase never fought for or objected to any of Maccagnan's picks.

Gase was believed to have been angered by Maccagnan not seeking his opinion on any decisions during organizational discussions.

“It pissed Adam off,” a team source said. “Mike didn’t want him to speak up too much. It’s a weird philosophy.”

Maccagnan didn't want the Jets' scouts influenced by Gase's opinion.

Gase will now essentially hand pick the next general manager of the Jets.

“I don’t think he wants to screw a lot of people over,” one Jets employee said of Gase. “Because he feels like he already kind of did that.”

Kareem Hunt: I Won't 'Mess This Up' With Browns

May 16, 2019 10:09 AM

Kareem Hunt says he made a mistake and plans to make the most out of his chance with the Cleveland Browns.

"I know I am not going to mess this up again," he said on the first day of the team's OTAs.

Hunt signed with the Browns in February after being cut by the Kansas City Chiefs when a video surfaced of Hunt, 23, shoving and kicking a woman at his Cleveland residence in 2018.

He will miss the first eight games of the 2019 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.
