Fred Davis has been released by the New England Patriots.
Davis joined the Patriots on a one-year deal May 11, four days after being reinstated by the NFL from an indefinite suspension for a second violation of the league's substance abuse policy. When the suspension was announced in February 2014, Davis said he was being punished for taking a supplement that included a banned substance.
Bill Belichick was asked about Davis on Tuesday.
"Fred's been here through the whole process, the OTAs; it's a different kind of system for him," Belichick said. "He's been out of football for a little while, but [he has] worked hard, very hard, to try to pick things up and learn a new system. He's making progress."
The Tennessee Titans have released Shonn Greene.
Greene reported to the team after previously skipping voluntary offseason workouts. He was scheduled to make $3.25 million on a three-year, $10 million deal signed in 2013.
Greene complied 687 yards on 171 carries and just six touchdowns in 24 games over two years.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed Tim Wright off waivers.
The Buccaneers traded Wright to the New England Patriots last August and he was waived by the franchise this week.
Wright caught six touchdowns for the Patriots.
While Wright did play at Rutgers, a program near and dear to Bill Belichick's heart, he probably wasn't going to keep a roster spot over Scott Chandler, the productive veteran from Buffalo who signed with New England in March.
The Philadelphia Eagles have released Evan Mathis.
Mathis had skipped the Eagles' offseason workouts in a contract dispute.
Mathis made two Pro Bowls since signing a five-year, $25 million contract with the Eagles in 2012.
The New England Patriots have released Tim Wright.
Wright, a 25-year-old tight end, was acquired by the Patriots last August for Logan Mankins.
Wright is an athletic tight end who had just 26 receptions and 259 yards in 2014, but caught six touchdowns.
The Patriots will move forward with Scott Chandler behind Rob Gronkowski at tight end.
