Eagles Release Shawn Andrews

Oct 6, 2014 10:06 AM

The Eagles have finally released Shawn Andrews, the one-time all-pro offensive lineman whose last couple years have been marked by what he described as clinical depression and lingering back issues. Andrews, a two-time Pro Bowl pick, has not played in a regular-season game since Week 2 of the 2008 season. He underwent back surgery in 2008 and again last year, but there have been lingering questions about Andrews' desire to play for several years. He missed time in training camp in 2008 while battling depression. With the move, the Eagles wipe out $22.5 million in future salary - base salaries of $2 million in 2010, $2.5 million in 2011, $2.75 million in 2012, $3.75 million in 2013, $5.25 million in 2014 and $6.25 million in 2015. Advertisement "We appreciate the efforts and contributions of Shawn while he was here," head coach Andy Reid said in a brief statement. "We have, however, decided to move in another direction."
