Eagles Release Brian Westbrook

Oct 31, 2014 12:55 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Tuesday they have released two-time Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook. "Brian is one of the greatest Eagles of all time and he is an even better person and leader," coach Andy Reid said. "In my mind, there has not been a more versatile running back that the NFL has seen. I had a conversation with Brian this morning to let him know. This is by far the most difficult part of this job. We wanted to make this move in order to maximize Brian's chances of landing with another NFL team."

Chargers Release Tomlinson

May 17, 2014 1:06 AM

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson, the Chargers all-time leading rusher, was released today after nine seasons in San Diego. Chargers President Dean Spanos met with Tomlinson today and informed his veteran running back that he is being released. ?This is a part of the business that I hate, and it?s particularly hard when you?re dealing with someone I consider a friend,? Spanos said. ?Change involving great players is never easy. I respect LT as much or more than any player I?ve ever known. And no one appreciates his contributions to this organization more than I do. That is why this is such a difficult announcement for me to make. ?It has been a privilege to work with him and witness his entire career. I?m proud of him and grateful to him for the way he has carried himself both on and off the field. ?No matter where he chooses to continue his career, in my mind LT will always be a San Diego Charger. His legacy as one of the greatest running backs the game has ever seen will be as a Charger.?

Giants Release Antonio Pierce

Nov 22, 2014 10:57 AM

Antonio Pierce has been released by the Giants. "I was shocked at first, but I'm not the one up there up in the office, and they said they felt they needed to go in another direction," Pierce told ESPN's Rachel Nichols on Thursday. "They said it wasn't my health, or the way I played, but just that -- that they were going in another direction. We left everything smooth and peaceful and I'm happy about that -- I felt like I said everything I needed to say to them. I've loved my time in New York and won't have anything but good feelings about being with this team." Pierce said the reason he was in the New York area was to have a doctor look at the herniated disc in his neck that caused him to miss the final seven games of last season. He said the MRI was "very positive." "I can't say I'm 100 percent yet, but with the season still six months away, I'm right where I need to be and I'm going to be fine," he said.
