The Washington Redskins announced today that they have released defensive back Shawn Springs. In his five seasons with the Redskins (2004-08), Springs played in 64 games with 59 starts. He totaled 275 tackles, 12 interceptions, 52 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Springs, a 12-year veteran, has amassed 665 tackles, 32 interceptions, 135 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and one touchdown.

The Colts announced that they will release Marvin Harrison on Wednesday. "I've always treasured the time I've had with him because I respected him so much as a person," Bill Polian said. "He worked so hard at his craft, he was always so prepared and he did every little thing he could to win. And he did it with quiet dignity, superb professionalism and with a sense of contribution to the team that really is second to none."

The Denver Broncos announced that they released cornerback Dre' Bly on Tuesday evening. Bly played two seasons in Denver after playing for Detroit and St. Louis. RealGM Note: Bly was signed to a five-year, $33 million contract in March of 2007 after he was acquired in a trade for Tatum Bell. He was given $16 million in guaranteed money.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released longtime running back Fred Taylor on Monday. Taylor was scheduled to make about $6 million next season.

Cincinnati acquired punter Ryan Plackemeier on waivers from Washington on Friday. Seattle drafted Plackemeier in 2006, and he was the Seahawks? regular punter for two seasons. He was waived in September and signed by Washington.

The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have released veteran wide receiver David Patten. In 2008 Patten played in five games for the Saints and made three starts. Over the course of the season he totaled 11 receptions for 162 yards for a 14.7 receiving average and one touchdown. Patten missed games four through seven due to a groin injury, returned to action in game eight at Atlanta, and was inactive for the final eight games of the season.

The Raiders have claimed quarterback Bruce Gradkowski off waivers from the Browns. Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo were Oakland's backups for JaMarcus Russell last season.
