Nevin Lawson Flagged For Longest Pass Interference Call In 15 Seasons

Sep 26, 2016 8:26 AM

Detroit Lions defensive back Nevin Lawson was called for a 66-yard pass interference penalty against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, the longest such penalty in at least 15 years.

The previous long during that time period was a 60-yard pass interference call against Cleveland Browns cornerback Mike Adams in a 2010 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

ESPN Stats & Info's database begins with the 2001 season.

The penalty occurred on the first play of the second quarter after Aaron Rodgers threw incomplete on a deep pass to Trevor Davis. Lawson and Davis' feet got tangled as they fell to the ground.

Lawson said after the Lions' 34-27 loss that he felt he didn't make contact with the receiver and that they were both "playing the ball." Lawson said he wasn't grabbing or holding on the play and that he was "disappointed" when he saw the flag.

"I don't think I pass interferenced him," Lawson said. "Just seen the ball in the air, I didn't even see him, to be honest. I was just focusing on the ball. He tripped, and that's what they called."

Larry Fitzgerald Catches 100th TD, Shrugs Off Retirement Reports

Sep 12, 2016 7:20 AM

Larry Fitzgerald caught a pair of touchdown passes against the New England Patriots on Sunday night, giving him 100 for his career.

Fitzgerald's performance came a few hours after reports surfaced that he was telling those close to him that 2016 would be his final season. After the Arizona Cardinals lost to the Patriots following a last-second missed field goal, Fitzgerald shrugged off the reports.

"You know, I don't talk about the future," Fitzgerald said. "I don't even know what I'm having for dinner tonight, let alone what I'm doing next year. I signed another year for a reason. I believe in what we're doing here. I believe in the guys that I have in this room, the head coach [Bruce Arians], his staff. Obviously, [Cardinals president] Michael Bidwill is doing everything he can to put us in a position to win.

"That's where my mindset is at. What I'm doing next year is of no importance. This is the year. And I want to make sure we make it great."
