Schwartz Credits Leads For Stafford's Improved Interception Rate

Oct 12, 2014 2:05 AM

Matthew Stafford's interceptions are down this season, but Jim Schwartz isn't sure if has as much to do with improved decision-making as it does playing with a lead.

"A lot of Matthew's interceptions last year came late in games when we were down a bunch," Schwartz said. "We didn't do a good enough job of supporting him. You saw some of those interceptions and things like that. His interceptions last year, I think, were only up one over our 2011 playoff year. So I wouldn't necessarily credit or put that on the fact that he's improved his decision making. Since the time he has come into the league he has had great command over what we want to do offensively and also what defenses do. But I think any quarterback, if you're behind in games, there's going to be more opportunities for you to make mistakes and things like that because you're trying to catch up in the game."

Ray Rice Ranks Last In Broken Tackles

Jul 31, 2014 11:39 PM

Ray Rice has averaged just 1.6 yards after contact this season, which is only better than Daryl Richardson, Willis McGahee, Lamar Miller and Chris Johnson in terms of starting running backs.

Rice has previously averaged 2.3 yards or more after contact.

Rice has only broken two tackles, which is the fewest of any running back with 50 or more carries.

With a depleted offensive line and an injured hip, Rice has struggled to put up his usual production.

Cutler Loses Just 2nd Game Of Career With 100+ Passer Rating

Jul 18, 2014 4:27 AM

The Chicago Bears lost 26-18 to the New Orleans Saints in Week 5 despite Jay Cutler finishing the game with a 128.1 passer rating.

Cutler had only lost one of 27 games as a starter with a passer rating of 100 or better.

“There were a few downs that we missed. There was a big fourth down going in that we missed. We weren’t as efficient in the red zone,” Cutler said. “A few plays here and there against a team like that, the way they played offensively and ate up the clock, it’s hard to rebound if you miss three or four plays.”

Alshon Jeffery Breaks Bears' Receiving Record With 218 Yards

Dec 6, 2014 7:35 PM

Alshon Jeffery finished Week 5 with 218 yards on 10 receptions, breaking a 59-year-old franchise record.

The Chicago Bears' previous single-game mark of 214 receiving yards was set in 1954 by Harlon Hill.

The Bears lost the game 26-18 to the New Orleans Saints.

“It’s not about what I did; it’s about what the team did, and we didn’t get the win,” Jeffery said. “So that’s what I focus on. I feel like what I did out there. … I’m more concerned about the W, not about what I did. It’s a team thing. There were eleven guys that took for me to get 200-plus yards or whatever I had.”
