Jimmy Garoppolo participated in individual and 7-on-7 drills with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, but skipped team drills. Garoppolo suffered a torn ACL on Sept. 23.
Garoppolo will not be cleared for full team work until training camp in part because the team doesn't want to risk having defenders around Garoppolo's legs during offseason work.
"I think he's handling it as well as he can," Kyle Shanahan said. "He's getting used to it. It's just a long process when you recover from an ACL, and he gets as much work as he can get in. I know he'd love to be out there for every rep, but he knows that he can't, so he's trying to make the most of his 7-on-7 and do as much work in every other aspect as he can."
Andrew Luck sat out the Indianapolis Colts' first OTA practice with a calf strain.
Frank Reich told reporters after the session that Luck suffered the injury while training with the team.
“Just a little tweak; little strain,” Reich said of Luck’s calf. “So my whole mode — and our whole mode — is going to be during this session just to be real conservative with anybody who has any issue whatsoever.
“Where we’re at right now is we’ll just say, ‘Hey, play conservative this week. Nothing this week, and then we’ll re-evaluate it after this week and see where he is.’”
Reuben Foster is believed to have suffered a torn ACL plus some concerns about possible artery damage in his leg.
The injury is reportedly very serious.
Foster was claimed off waivers by Washington following multiple legal issues with the San Francisco 49ers.
The Seattle Seahawks have released Doug Baldwin and Kam Chancellor after they failed their physical examinations.
Baldwin had surgery in the offseason to repair shoulder and groin injuries and he also had a knee procedure. Baldwin is widely expected to retire. Baldwin had remained silent on his future in recent weeks.
Chancellor did not play last season due to a neck injury suffered in November 2017. Chancellor remained on Seattle’s roster last season for salary purposes and was on the physically unable to perform list but was not expected to play again following the injury.
Jason Pierre-Paul could be out for the entire 2019 season with a fractured neck suffered in a single-car crash last week in South Florida.
Pierre-Paul will likely need surgery.
"As we stated last week following the news of Jason's auto accident, our immediate concern was for both Jason and his passenger," general manager Jason Licht said in a statement Tuesday. "While Jason was treated and released in South Florida the same day of the accident, we wanted to ensure that our medical team had an opportunity to perform a thorough evaluation here in Tampa, and that process is currently ongoing."
The Oakland Raiders have lost Isaiah Crowell for the season after he tore his Achilles tendon during a workout Tuesday, according to a source.
Crowell will undergo season-ending surgery next week.
The Raiders had signed the running back a one-year deal worth up to $2.5 million.
