Marcus Mariota Unlikely To Play In Week 17

Dec 30, 2018 12:08 PM

Marcus Mariota is not expected to play in the Tennessee Titans' pivotal Week 17 game against the Colts with a playoff berth on the line.

Mariota is dealing with a nerve issue that is putting his overall playing status in jeopardy.

Mariota is officially listed as questionable and reportedly will test his arm in pregame warm-ups. But one source told ESPN that an independent spine specialist has warned the Titans that further damage would put Mariota's ability to throw the football at significant risk beyond this weekend.

Blaine Gabbert will start in place of Mariota.

Dec 28, 2018 10:15 AM

"It was a similar situation," Sean McVay said.

"It was bad," Gurley said. "I was contemplating on giving the Rams back their money and everything. It was bad. It was real bad."

Gurley's knee, however, felt better a few days after Week 1, which is not the case currently.

Todd Gurley Doesn't Practice, Thinks He'll 'Be Fine'

Dec 21, 2018 8:24 AM

Todd Gurley hasn't practiced due to inflammation in his left knee, but thinks he'll be able to play on Sunday.

The Los Angeles Rams are preparing for the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16.

"I think I'll be fine (to play Sunday)," Gurley said. "Just taking it day by day, recovering, resting, trying to feel better."

The Rams (11-3) have clinched the NFC West, but a first-round bye in the playoffs is still up for grabs.

"We got a game and I'm pretty sure me being out there, if I can be out there, I would put this team in a good position to help them win," Gurley said. "So why wouldn't I be out there if I can play in this situation? We just lost two, trying to get a first-round bye, like, that's what we are trying to do. We're trying to win."

Cam Newton Done For 2018 With Sore Shoulder

Dec 19, 2018 4:17 PM

The Carolina Panthers will sit Cam Newton for the final two games of the season as he deals with a sore throwing shoulder.

Marty Hurney confirmed Wednesday that Newton will be inactive for Sunday's game against the Falcons.

Newton has been battling soreness in his right shoulder since throwing 22 passes in the fourth quarter of a comeback victory against Philadelphia on Oct. 21.

Newton said nothing he has tried, from acupuncture to massage, has worked.

"You can't rub magic dust on it, go to this or that person, have the placebo things done where you think certain things are what they are -- and you come out and you're still the same,'' Newton said at the time. "Over the past couple of weeks, nothing has really changed.''

Alex Smith Released From Hospital With Encouraging Prognosis

Dec 16, 2018 10:24 AM

Alex Smith has been released from the hospital with an encourage prognosis after multiple surgeries on his broken leg.

There is some level of optimism that Smith may be able to return to the NFL.

The priority for now is simply recovering from a spiral leg fracture that became infected after multiple surgeries.

If Smith were unable to play, Washington would have to eat $20.4 million worth of salary-cap space next season and $21.4 million in 2020.

A financial scenario such as this would place Washington back into the same position they were in during the 2012 season when they were docked $36 million worth of cap space for illegally structuring contracts in 2010.
