Tom Brady On Hand: 'It's Getting Better'

Jan 31, 2018 8:47 AM

Tom Brady continues to wear a glove on his throwing hand, but he said of the injury: "it's getting better."

Brady injured his hand in practice two weeks ago, but didn't appear limited during the New England Patriots' win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC title game.

"My hand, it's getting better," Brady said. "It's not quite where I want it to be. So I'm just trying to protect it the best way I can. It's obviously a very important part of my body for a quarterback, so I just want it to be as healthy as possible for the game on Sunday.

"Under Armour just made it for me. It's a great glove. It's got a lot of recovery in it, and that's what I need."

Brady reportedly had 12 stitches to close a wound on the hand.

Rob Gronkowski Returns To Practice, Remains In Concussion Protocol

Jan 27, 2018 7:09 PM

Rob Gronkowski returned to practice on Saturday but remains in the concussion protocol.

Participating in football-specific drills is the fourth step, followed by full football activity.

"It's always great to have him out there," quarterback Tom Brady said Saturday. "He's a great player, great person, great teammate and a big part of what we do. So it obviously hurts when he's not out there for a lot of reasons, but he's doing the best he can do, and we're all hopeful."

Deshaun Watson 'Ahead Of Schedule' In Rehab

Jan 25, 2018 8:35 AM

Deshaun Watson continues to be "ahead of schedule" as he rehabs his torn right ACL, according to Houston Texans coach Bill O'Brien.

O'Brien is hopeful Watson will be able to participate in at least some drills during the Texans' organized team activities.

"He's working hard to get back and I know he's ahead of schedule," O'Brien said. "I'm hoping ... that he can at least maybe participate in 7-on-7 [drills]. Maybe not team drills, but [maybe] he can do 7-on-7s or one-on-ones and things like that. But we'll see."

Watson was originally given a timeline of eight to nine months for his rehab from early November surgery, which would have put him on the field in time for training camp. Watson tore his ACL on a non-contact drill during practice. OTAs begin in mid-April and go until mid-June.

Patriots Optimistic Rob Gronkowski Will Be Cleared For Super Bowl

Jan 22, 2018 1:42 PM

Rob Gronkowski exited the AFC Championship Game in the first half with a concussion. Gronkowski took a helmet-to-helmet shot from Barry Church, which was ruled a personal foul.

“I just tried to dislodge the ball,” Church said. “He’s a big dude, and I was just trying to dislodge the ball. But I guess they felt it was too high of a hit. I hope he’s healthy. I know he didn’t come back, so I hope he is all right. It was a tough call, but you have to go with what they call. It’s the toughest play in football. If you go low for the knees, you are considered a dirty player. And if you go high, they throw the flag at you. It’s a bang-bang play, and I was just trying to play football. I tried to lead with my shoulder.”

The Patriots are optimistic Gronkowski will be cleared to play in the Super Bowl, according to a source.

“(Offensive coordinator) Josh (McDaniels) did such a great job of figuring out what we needed to do and how we needed to get it done, and he made it happen,” quarterback Tom Brady said of the adjustments post-Gronkowski. “It’s hard when you lose such a critical part of your team and offense. Hopefully, he’s OK. It’s a tough shot he took. He’s as tough as they come. Hopefully, he feels better soon.”

Bill Belichick Predictably Cryptic Over Tom Brady's Hand Injury

Jan 19, 2018 11:24 AM

Bill Belichick deflected questions about the hand injury of Tom Brady during his Friday press conference.

"We gave out the injury report yesterday and we'll update it today," said Belichick.

Belichick was asked about his level of concern on the injury.

"I don't know. We'll see," said Belichick.

Brady was held out of Thursday's full-pads practice after warm-ups. He had gone through some light stretching and jogging Thursday, wearing red gloves on both hands, which isn't the norm for him.

Asked how much Brady's status complicates the planning process, Belichick said, "I don't know."

Brian Hoyer took all the repetitions in Thursday's practice.

"Brian does a great job for us," Belichick said. "Works hard. Practices hard."

A source said Brady's hand "should be OK" for Sunday's game, while another source acknowledged that it could affect him "slightly" in the game.
