Andrew Luck Optimistic He Won't Need Additional Surgery

Dec 29, 2017 5:03 PM

Andrew Luck addressed the media after spending the past six weeks working with a trainer in the Netherlands.

Luck underwent right shoulder surgery last January and went to Europe after the Colts gave him a cortisone shot. Luck missed the entire 2017 season.

"My gut and my feeling tells me that I do not need another surgery," Luck said Friday. "I think I need to work more and to stay on this straight and narrow, if you will. I don't want to sound like throwing is the test. I'm doing well, and I will continue to do well. That's how I feel today."

Luck said he did not receive any injections in his shoulder while in the Netherlands. It was strictly "rehab, strength training, soft-tissue work" with a trainer whom he has worked with in the past and one the Colts approve of.

Luck looked and talked like a person who's mentally drained from the entire injury process.

"I've never entertained the thoughts that this is [career-ending]," Luck said. "Sure, it's crossed my mind. But I don't think that at all, at all."

Teams Argue Packers Should Be Forced To Release Aaron Rodgers

Dec 24, 2017 3:38 PM

Multiple teams have complained to the NFL league office that the Green Bay Packers violated rules regarding player eligibility on injured reserve.

Because Rodgers was activated off injured reserve, played last Sunday and was subsequently placed back on injured reserve without a new injury, rules state that Rodgers should have to be released.

Green Bay did not announce its decision to place Rodgers back on injured reserve until Tuesday, after the Packers had been eliminated from a potential postseason spot.

"Frankly, I don't see any issue with Aaron Rodgers going on IR," Mike McCarthy said Sunday. "My understanding is we communicated, followed the procedures and guidelines that you have to, to put a player on IR. So from our perspective, there's no issue."

Nobody in the NFL expects the Packers to have to release Rodgers.

Antonio Brown Out For Regular Season With Partially Torn Calf

Dec 17, 2017 11:05 PM

Antonio Brown has suffered a partially torn calf muscle and will be out for at least the remainder of the regular season.

Brown caught two passes for 24 yards before he suffered the injury in the first half of Pittsburgh's loss to the Patriots.

"It changes. A.B. is significant," Mike Tomlin told reporters. "But I thought the guys did a nice job of adjusting and making plays largely. You lose somebody like A.B. and there's an adjustment."

Andrew Luck Could Undergo Surgery On Bicep Tendon

Dec 17, 2017 2:58 PM

Andrew Luck may need to undergo a surgery to relocate the biceps tendon that is attached to his repaired labrum. In the procedure known as a tenodesis, the biceps tendon is reattached by a screw to the humerus, the long bone of the upper arm that connects the shoulder and the elbow.

A determination will be made on that surgery once Luck resumes his throwing regimen. If Luck undergoes the surgery, the recovery time is three to six months.

Luck previously suffered a setback with pain and discomfort once he began throwing the ball again.

Luck has undergone an extended European treatment and rehab.

Andrew Luck Has Nothing 'Ominous' In Right Shoulder

Dec 14, 2017 4:54 PM

Jim Irsay claims there is nothing ominous in the shoulder of Andrew Luck and that he will return to the Indianapolis Colts next season.

"He's doing great," Irsay told Rapoport. "He's doing well. [We're] disappointed obviously it's taken as long as it's taken. You know, medicine and the way it goes. But there hasn't been any unusual setback. We didn't find out anything ominous, something we didn't know about or anything like that. It's just taken time for him to go through his whole aspect of rehabbing and progressing and working through the soreness."

Luck has gone to Europe for treatment.

"He's still in Europe but he's coming home very shortly," Irsay told Rapoport. "No additional surgery at this point planned."

Aaron Rodgers Says He's Cleared To Return

Dec 13, 2017 8:17 AM

Aaron Rodgers announced on Instagram Tuesday night that doctors have medically cleared him to return to the field for the Green Bay Packers.

On Monday, Mike McCarthy said Rodgers underwent tests to determine how much his surgically repaired right collarbone had healed.

"It's been a long road from that day to this, but I'm happy to say I've been medically cleared to return. Thanks for all the love, support, prayers, and well wishes over the past 8 weeks and a big thank you to Dr McKenzie and our incredible training staff," Rodgers wrote.

The Packers will face the Carolina Panthers this weekend. At 7-6, they remain in the NFC playoff picture.

Aaron Rodgers, Packers Facing Difficult Decision On Week 15

Dec 12, 2017 1:18 PM

Aaron Rodgers' status for Week 15 remains uncertain.

Rodgers underwent the all-important first CT scan to determine how his fractured collarbone is healing on Monday, but there is not a definitive determination on his status.

Rodgers is pushing hard to play after he's practiced for the past two weeks.

The decision was described as a "risk/reward" proposition as it has yet to fully heal.

Rodgers chose a surgical procedure involving two plates and 13 screws as an aggressive way of accelerating healing and protecting his throwing shoulder. I
