Maurkice Pouncey Underwent Seven Procedures On Leg Last Season

Jun 16, 2016 8:33 PM

Maurkice Pouncey is relieved to be back on the field after a horrific 2015 season that saw him undergo six surgical procedures and a skin graft.

Pouncey was previously a Pro Bowl center.

Pouncey broke his left fibula in the preseason when Green Bay Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix fell onto the back of his leg. Packers receiver Jordy Nelson also tore his anterior cruciate ligament in that Aug. 23 game.

Pouncey suffered a setback in October. The surgical wound didn't close properly, resulting in a staph infection.

The hope is Kaepernick will be cleared when camp opens at the end of July.

Offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins admitted last week he had "no idea" when the quarterback would be cleared.

Kaepernick will likely need to be substantially better than Blaine Gabbert in camp and in the preseason to win the job back.
