Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his right Achilles tendon when tackle Max Starks stepped on it during the Steelers' practice Thursday, s reported by ESPN.com.
Roethlisberger was expected to be re-examined Friday and his playing status for the team's game against the Redskins remained undecided.
However, he did travel with the team Friday to Washington, D.C., according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Grossman Out 4-5 Weeks With Hamstring Injury
Texans backup quarterback Rex Grossman will miss about a month of action with a hamstring injury.
Houston is looking for another quarterback to fill in until the former Bears starter in healthy.

An MRI revealed the injury on Saturday after the rookie running back was hurt in Friday's preseason game against the 49ers.
He'll miss some time in the preseason, but is expected to be ready for the team's regular-season opener on Sept. 13.
Moreno Set For MRI On Knee
Broncos rookie running back Knowshon Moreno was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday following a knee injury suffered on Friday night.
Moreno, the 12th overall pick, hurt his knee in the team's first preseason game.
Initial reports are that the knee has been sprained.
Giants Lose Andre Brown For Season
Giants rookie running back Andre Brown will miss the entire 2009 season after rupturing his left Achilles' tendon.
"I don't know how it happened," coach Tom Coughlin said through a team spokesman, according to the Star Ledger. "Andre was running his route side by side with the linebacker."
Brown was fourth on New York's depth chart at running back behind Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and Danny Ware.
Smith Makes Appearance At Panthers' Practice
Panthers receiver Steve Smith made a surprise return to practice on Friday.
Earlier this week, Smith left the team during practice with what he thought was a broken shoulder.
"It doesn't hurt as much. Sleep is kind of difficult, but it's all right," said Smith, according to the Associated Press. "I wouldn't say I woke up and said, 'OK, I'm healed.' But it's getting more tolerable."
He told the press that he suffered a "pretty good bone bruise."
X-rays were negative Monday night.
