Stephen Jones said the Dallas Cowboys spend as much as possible to keep their core players on their roster.
"We spend max, max money year in and year out. All 32 can only spend the same amount of money over a five-year stretch," executive vice president Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. "When we're all said and done, we max out our salary cap every year. We will have done that and what comes with having a good roster, which we do, we also are looking towards signing our own guys. It doesn't mean it happens overnight. But when you're wanting to sign players like Dak [Prescott] and Micah [Parsons] and CeeDee [Lamb], then certainly you have to hold money back if you want to have a realistic chance of signing those guys."
Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars are in discussions on a contract extension as he is between his third and fourth NFL season.
NFL rules allow Lawrence to sign an extension after his third season. He signed a fully guaranteed fourth-year contract worth $36,793,592 after the Jaguars selected him first overall in 2021.
"There's definitely been some conversations," Lawrence said Tuesday. "As far as where that's at now, it's not really my focus. I'd love to obviously be a Jag for as long as possible. We love it here, and I love where we're headed as an organization.
"I feel like I'm just getting better every year and my best ball's definitely ahead of me."
DeVonta Smith and the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a three-year extension worth $75 million with $51 million guaranteed.
The team also exercised Smith's fifth-year option, which will pay Smith a salary of around $16 million for the 2025 campaign.
Smith becomes the NFL's fifth wide receiver to average $25 million or more per season, joining Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins ($30 million), Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders ($28 million), Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams ($26.7 million) and Smith's teammate, A.J. Brown ($25 million).
Smith, 25, has 240 catches for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns over three seasons with the Eagles.
DeForest Buckner has agreed to a two-year extension with the Indianapolis Colts worth $46 million.
Buckner was entering the final year of a four-year, $84 million contract signed after joining the Colts in a trade from the San Francisco 49ers in 2020, when he was a first-team All-Pro selection.
For the 30-year-old Buckner, the $23 million average annual value in his new deal ranks fifth among defensive tackles, behind Kansas City's Chris Jones (31.75 million), Las Vegas' Christian Wilkins ($27.5 million), Baltimore's Justin Madubuike ($24.5 million) and Carolina's Derrick Brown ($24 million).
The Seattle Seahawks are signing veteran guard Laken Tomlinson to a one-year deal, a source confirmed to ESPN on Friday.
The deal is worth up to $4 million, a source told ESPN.
Tomlinson, 32, was released by the New York Jets in February. He gives the Seahawks an experienced and durable starter to help fill one of their biggest remaining holes.
Tom Brady said he was retiring from football "for good" on Feb. 1, 2023, but he might be having second thoughts.
In an appearance on the "Deep Cut" podcast, released Thursday, Brady was asked by host Vic Blends whether he would pick up the phone if a team called him in the event of an injury.
"I'm not opposed to it," Brady said. "I don't know if they are going to let me if I become an owner of an NFL team. I'm always going to be in good shape. I'll always be able to throw the ball. So, to come in for a little bit, like MJ [Michael Jordan] coming back, I don't know if they would let me. But I wouldn't be opposed to it."
The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to sign DeVonta Smith to a long-term contract.
They recently signed Jordan Mailata to a lucrative extension.
Smith, 25, is currently under contract through 2024. The Eagles can exercise his fifth-year option for 2025 by May 2, but the two sides have kicked off behind-the-scenes talks on a new deal, according to a report.
There is "general optimism" that an extension "will materialize in the near future."

There is optimism that a deal will come to fruition before the mid-July deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign a multi-year contract.
Winfield, who turns 26 this offseason, was a second-round pick (No. 45 overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Cleveland Browns have agreed to a reworked deal with Nick Chubb, according to a source.
The agreement ensures the running back will be back with the team for the 2024 season.
The Browns reduced Chubb's salary cap hit from $15.85 million to $6.275 million and he can earn up to $12.2 million next season based on performance levels, according to a source.
Chubb had a base salary of $11.8 million for the 2024 season, the final year of his deal, prior to the restructuring.
