John Harbaugh Guarantees Ravens Will Pick Up Lamar Jackson's Option

Apr 28, 2021 8:16 AM

John Harbaugh said Tuesday that the Baltimore Ravens will pick up Lamar Jackson's fifth-year option before Monday's deadline.

"Guarantee it," Harbaugh said on The Rich Eisen Show.

Jackson will make a guaranteed $23.1 million in 2022, a significant raise from his $1.7 million salary this season.

By exercising Jackson's option, the Ravens will squash the speculation that the team will allow Jackson to "graduate" after four seasons. A report recently suggested the Ravens could trade up to draft a quarterback this week and move on from Jackson before his heightened salary-cap hit limits Baltimore's spending.

Packers View Aaron Rodgers As QB For 'Foreseeable Future'

Apr 26, 2021 9:04 PM

The Green Bay Packers view Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback for the "foreseeable future."

"That's kind of something we're working through," Brian Gutekunst said. "You know, it's something that we've talked about quite a bit as we've worked through this salary-cap situation, which is really kind of a two-year situation. We've looked at a lot of different things and that's one of them."

Rodgers has no more guaranteed money left on the $134 million extension he signed in 2018 that runs through the 2023 season.

"Aaron's our guy; he's going to be our quarterback for the foreseeable future," Gutekunst added. "We're excited about the kind of the things we're going to try to accomplish here over the next couple years. So we certainly think with the contract that you're kind of talking about is something we'll work through. We're going to have to do probably a few things with different contracts as we head toward the season and then through the season to make sure that our salary cap situation, not only this year, but in 2022 is square. So we're not done yet. We've done a lot to get here. We've kind of been doing things as we go and we will continue to do that as we go."

Jordan Reed Retires Due To Concussion Concerns

Apr 20, 2021 2:57 PM

Jordan Reed is retiring from the NFL after experiencing a number of concussions during his career.

"I was pretty sure I was going to keep playing; I was feeling good about where I was at," Reed told ESPN. "But then I had some lingering effects and sought out professional help to get diagnosed. They told me it was not a good idea to keep playing. I agreed with them."

Reed visited Orlando's Plasticity Center in late winter for a brain scan. He said based on the results it was recommended he retire. Reed said it took him a while to make the decision.

"Before when I had a concussion I would feel better afterwards and I wouldn't have lingering effects," Reed said. "If I didn't have any symptoms I would have kept playing," he said. "I'm OK with it because I know the reason why I'm making the choice is for family and my children, so I can be there for them. It's just time."

Reed caught 28 touchdowns and was one of the NFL's best tight ends when healthy.
