Seahawks Still Seeking 2019 2nd Round Pick For Earl Thomas

Sep 30, 2018 1:23 PM

The Seattle Seahawks remain open to trading Earl Thomas but they remain adamant on receiving a 2019 second round pick in return for him.

The Chiefs were unwilling to meet that price but would be interested if the Seahawks were to lower their demands. The Cowboys offered a second-round pick at one point during the preseason, but Seattle wanted more from Dallas.

Thomas is widely expected to leave the Seahawks in 2019.

Pete Carroll said earlier this week that the Seahawks and Thomas are "in a good place" despite the star safety's ongoing contract dispute with the team.

49ers Not Interested In Nick Foles, Colin Kaepernick

Sep 30, 2018 12:15 PM

The San Francisco 49ers are comfortable with starting C.J. Beathard at quarterback and aren't interested in acquiring a high profile quarterback such as Nick Foles or Colin Kaepernick.

Some within the NFL are hoping the 49ers would trade for Foles as they have five prime-time games on their schedule.

Some fans of the 49ers have lobbied the team to sign Kaepernick.

One team source said, they think Beathard will "be productive."

The 49ers lost Jimmy Garoppolo for the season due to a torn ACL.

Steelers Have Yet To Receive Serious Interest In Le'Veon Bell

Sep 30, 2018 12:09 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to progress on trade talks involving Le'Veon Bell to a serious stage.

Some teams have inquired with Pittsburgh on Bell but none have been aggressive.

Bell's continued absence from Pittsburgh has raised questions about what his future salary could and would be if the Steelers, or any team that traded for him, used the transition tag on him this offseason.

The longer Bell stays away, the more his salary for this season drops, which could dramatically affect what he earns in 2019.

If Bell were to report to the Steelers next week, the most cash he could make this year would be $11.12 million; and 120 percent of that number under the transition tag would be $13.346 million -- lower than the $14.534 he was scheduled to earn under the franchise tag this season.

James Harrison: Le'Veon Bell Should Sign Franchise Tag, Fake Injury

Sep 26, 2018 12:22 PM

James Harrison, a former teammate of Le'Veon Bell with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has some advice for the running back.

Bell has stayed away from the Steelers, who placed the franchise tag on him. Bell wants to hit free agency this coming offseason in good health, but won't get the accrued season he needs to become a free agent if he never shows up.

Harrison suggests Bell should sign the franchise tag before the deadline to get the accrued season, report to the Steelers and then fake an injury to prevent himself from taking the field.

"I think the play for Le'Veon, if I'm Le'Veon, is I'm coming back — what is it, November 13? — and I'm gonna go in there, I'm gonna get my credit for the season I need to get, and I'm gonna do the best I can to get out of that season healthy. And, for me, I'd give you everything in practice, you would see — the cameras would see — that I am fine, I am healthy. But come Saturday, 'Something ain't right, I can't play on Sunday.' Because if I go out here and I mess something up I'm losing a lot of money," Harrison said on FS1.

Torrey Smith Wants Panthers To Consider Signing Eric Reid

Sep 26, 2018 8:30 AM

The Carolina Panthers need help at free safety and Torrey Smith wants them to consider Eric Reid.

"I think we all know why he hasn't received a call," Smith said.

In 2016, Reid joined Colin Kaepernick in kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial equality and police brutality.

Reid became a free agent this past offseason and remains unsigned although several teams have lost a starting safety to injury.

Smith called Reid, a 2013 Pro Bowl selection, a "great leader" and one of the "best men that I know."

"Honestly, with our injuries, I hope he ends up here," Smith said. "I know how he is as a talent. If this is something where they come and talk to me about him, I'll be glad to talk about him as a player, as a person. He's one of the best men I've been around, so I hope that is something that can happen for us because I know that with the injuries we have, he's a guy that can help this team.

"I really hope he gets a shot. He deserves it, and it's not right what's happened to him."

Eagles Sign Jordan Matthews

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Jordan Matthews.

The Eagles have had depth issues at wide receiver, placing Mike Wallace on injured reserve this week.

Matthews was traded to the Buffalo Bills before the start of last season and then went to the New England Patriots.

Matthews was valued in the locker room during his first stint with the Eagles and is a close friend of quarterback Carson Wentz.

Josh Gordon Hopes To End Up With 49ers, Cowboys

Sep 16, 2018 10:11 AM

Josh Gordon will be released or traded by the Cleveland Browns and he hopes to end up with either the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys.

The Browns provided no details behind their decision to part ways with Gordon, but a source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that he broke the team's "trust" when he reported to the facility Saturday with a hamstring issue after being a full participant in practice all week.

Gordon will have no says in where he is traded but Gordon is hopeful that it's to a place that can provide the support and understanding what his needs.
