Tomlin Looking For Help On Pittsburgh's O-Line

Oct 15, 2014 11:39 PM

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is looking to fortify the team's offensive line. Three of the team's starters on the line were helped off the field during Sunday night's win over the Colts. Tomlin said the Steelers are "open to looking to maybe bring someone in" this week. He stressed the team is looking for depth, not someone to show up on Wednesday and be ready to play in Sunday's game at Houston. "It would just be for practice purposes only," Tomlin said.

Still No New Contract For Brees

As the Saints prepare to face the Texans, quarterback Drew Brees is still without a new contract. An agreement between Brees and the team has not been reached and there is no deal in sight, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The financial divide remains too wide. The two sides are expected to pull the plug on talks at some point in the near future for fear it will become a distraction.

Hillis, Browns Still Working On Deal

Oct 3, 2014 3:07 AM

The Browns and running back Peyton Hillis are still working on a new contract, but the bruiser insists the negotiations won't affect his play. "The bottom line is that it's not up to me in the end," Hillis said. "When people say they want to stop negotiating it's because they want to play better and they don't want the (salary) figure to hang over their heads. So for me, if they want to come back and talk, I'm open. "It's up to the Cleveland Browns and until that time happens, I'll continue to play my best." Browns general manager Tom Heckert declined to comment on the status of negotiations with Hillis, who is in the final year of his rookie contract. "Until we get a deal done with somebody, we're not gonna talk about it," Heckert said. Hillis, who rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, is scheduled to make a base salary of $600,000 this season.

Ravens Want To Lock Up Flacco, Rice

Jul 28, 2014 2:19 PM

The Ravens are focused on locking up quarterback Joe Flacco and running back Ray Rice for the foreseeable future. Rice's contract ends after this season, while Flacco's deal expires after the 2012 campaign. "There's no secret," said linebacker Ray Lewis. "I think our organization does a great job in handling those guys. [General Manager Ozzie Newsome] does a great job in talking to those guys personally, to kind of let them know where they're at. I think everybody knew what the food chain is, what the priorities of what we're trying to get done is. I think Joe and Ray know what's coming up next for them." Baltimore recently gave All-Pro defensive tackle Haloti Ngata a lucrative extension. "That's something, I think, everybody in the league recognizes. What's been accomplished here, it starts with the draft. These guys are all guys who were drafted that the Ravens decided to hold onto rather than let walk out of the building," coach John Harbaugh said. "They decided ... we're going to establish a great defense here and we're going to maintain a great defense. Now, you have the personality for a football team and for an organization. That's really important. Everybody in the building would agree with that."
