Cadillac Hopes To Be Part Of Tampa's Plans

Oct 15, 2014 11:44 PM

Cadillac Williams, who will be a free agent when the NFL lockout ends, hopes to remain with the Buccaneers. The seven-year veteran has only played for Tampa Bay. "Tampa is a very special place for me," Williams told The Tampa Tribune. "This is the team that drafted me. It's a team that has been through the good times and bad times with me. At the lowest point of my career, the organization was definitely behind me. "The fan base in and out the community, dealing with different people, it's a very special place to me. I've grown accustomed to the area and living here. Tampa is a great city, great place and most of all, a really great place to play. It's definitely a place I would love to play and finish out my career, but only time will tell." Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris has indicated that he would like the team to re-sign the running back.

Carroll Unlikely To Reunite With Leinart?

Sep 12, 2014 9:22 PM

Despite rumors to the contrary it appears unlikely that Seahawks coach Pete Carroll will reunite with former USC quarterback Matt Leinart. "It just doesn't seem like a good fit," one team insider said. "If anything, when you look at what happened to LenDale White and Lawrence Jackson, you have to wonder about just how much stock Carroll puts in USC connections."

Moss-To-Jets Becoming More Than Talk

Jun 9, 2014 3:11 PM

Rumors that the Jets could eventually sign free-agent wide receiver Randy Moss have become more than just talk. Free agency in the NFL has been delayed by the lockout. "There's no question that Randy Moss has the capability, has the God-given talent to be a superstar, and he has been a superstar, particularly with the Patriots," Jets owner Woody Johnson said. "That's about all I can say about him, other than I admire his skill and what he's accomplished during those years." Johnson said that the Jets have worked on "scenario development" the last few weeks, preparing for a potentially frantic free-agent period.

Ike Taylor: Pittsburgh Is 'Like Home To Me'

Oct 23, 2014 1:34 AM

Ike Taylor isn't sure when he'll sign his next NFL contract, but he admitted that Pittsburgh is "like home." The free-agent cornerback believes he would already have signed with a team if not for the labor lockout that postponed the start of free agency in early March. "It's just got to play its course," Taylor said. "I'm not really worrying about it. The NFL has said they’re going to take care of the (free-agent) contracts whenever they need to." After playing the final season of a four-year, $22.5 million deal, Taylor sounds as if he wants to return to the Steelers.

Portis Wants Chance To Play For Giants

May 31, 2014 9:26 PM

Clinton Portis would like the chance to play for the Giants next season, which would allow him to face the Redskins twice. "I would love that opportunity," Portis told SiriusXM NFL Radio. Portis, 29, noted that the Giants pound the football with their 1-2 running back punch of Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs. "I just need to be able to come out and show what I'm capable of," Portis said. "... I think it's revitalizing to have an opportunity and still have the drive and still have the hunger to go out and prove people wrong."

Morris Wants Ruud, Cadillac Back

Sep 30, 2014 11:28 PM

Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris has an idea of which players he'd like to see on the sidelines next season. If things go according to his plan, linebacker Barrett Ruud and running back Cadillac Williams will be re-signed as free agents after the lockout. "First of all, you mentioned two guys with great character," Morris said. "Two leaders in our community and two guys that gave us great service throughout their time and hopefully it can continue. "We'll get a chance to sit down when all the collective bargaining agreement stuff is solved. We'll get a chance to find out if we can have both of those guys back on our football team, the two guys that we know we'll have in free agency right now. We'll just have to wait and see."

Irsay Still Thinks Long-Term Manning Deal Is Possible

Sep 30, 2014 11:38 PM

Colts owner Jim Irsay still believes the team can sign franchise quarterback Peyton Manning to a long-term contract. Because of the lockout rules, Irsay hasn't talked much lately with Manning, whose seven-year, $99.2 million contract expired at the end of the 2010 league year. Irsay has previously said he expects to make Manning the league's highest-paid player, and he remains hopeful that a long-term agreement, separate from the $23.1 million franchise tender afforded to the quarterback in February. "Obviously, things have been put on hold, because of what you're permitted to do," Irsay said. "But I'm still confident that we can get a long-term agreement done. And I think we've probably added to our proposal to him, with our first two draft picks, both really great young offensive linemen (Anthony Castonzo and Ben Ijalana). I think we can get something done. "Again, it's been on hold, but it's something we can get back on track and get something done with him and (agent) Tom Condon, and that's what we're going to try to do on a long-term deal."
