Bears tight end Greg Olsen is hopeful of receiving a contract extension with the team. Olsen's contract will expire after the 2011 season. He finished fourth on the team in receptions with 41 and tied Johnny Knox for the team lead with five touchdown catches. Chicago offensive coordinator Mike Martz envisions a bigger role for Olsen moving forward. "I've said, since the day I got here, that I'm very happy here," Olsen said. "I'm very happy here. I feel like I've had a good four years and have really enjoyed my time. "I know there's a lot that goes into (an extension), with the situation with the labor agreement or what not. I would love to have that security and be here for a long time. There are a lot of things right now kind of out of all of our hands. We've got to let it play out. Once we get all this situated and get to free agency and all of that out of the way, we'll see what happens."

Quintin Mikell wants to re-sign with the Eagles and appears willing to offer a hometown discount, but does the team want him back? "At this point I really don't know," Mikell said. "I want to be back here and hopefully it can work out. I'm a loyal person and I know the Eagles are a loyal franchise. It's what I want and hopefully it's what they want, too." Mikell, 30, may not resolve his future until right before the 2011 season due to the NFL's current work stoppage.

Jets nose tackle Kris Jenkins is coming off his second serious knee injury in as many years. Jenkins, 31, appears unlikely to remain with New York whenever the NFL's offseason and calender resume. "I'd be interested if [the Jets] had grass on the stadium field but right now, that's the big thing and they don’t," Jenkins said. "I've played here long and loved it. I love this team, I love the fans and I've bonded with this team. I feel like I have a connection with this city." Jenkins was released by the team after the season, but confirmed he was offered a one-year deal to come back at a reduced salary.

The Cardinals and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald were discussing a contract extension prior to the NFL lockout. Fitzgerald's contract ends after the 2011 season. Arizona continues to insist a deal will get done while Fitzgerald continues to insist he wants to remain in Arizona. According to Darren Urban, money won't be an issue. "Money will not be an issue," he writes. "The Cardinals are expected to meet Fitzgerald's desires in that area. As last season progressed, however, Fitzgerald talked more and more about wanting to make sure he played for a winner. He was always careful not to talk about having a better quarterback – Fitzgerald is too smart for that – but it was not difficult to read between the lines."

Saints coach Sean Payton feels the door is open for Reggie Bush to return to the team. It's far from a lock as the running back would have to take a pay cut to do so, but Payton does feel the two sides can work out a deal. New Orleans would maintain their three-headed attack of Pierre Thomas, Chris Ivory and Bush if the latter returns.

Looking towards the postseason, the Buccaneers are considering the addition of some free agents to fortify their roster. Tampa Bay has had several misses in free agency in recent years, including running back Derrick Ward, who they signed away from the Giants. Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris says it could be time to add free-agent pieces to push Tampa Bay back over the top, especially with about 500 players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents when the lockout ends. "We wanted to accumulate talent throughout the draft, and it was no different in 2002 and 2001, when our ownership went out and got a Simeon Rice, a Brad Johnson or a Keenan McCardell (in free agency) in order to push that team over the top and help the draft classes of Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, John Lynch and Ronde Barber," Morris said. "We may be nearing that plateau. As soon as the free agency season is able to be open, some of those discussions will be more realistic. You're talking about adding components, getting the right guy, a good fit."

They can't do so now because of the NFL's current labor unrest, but the Rams plan on re-signing wide receiver Mark Clayton. "And from what I'm hearing it's all but a slam-dunk that Clayton will re-sign with the team once the lockout ends," wrote Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. In just five games with the Rams in 2010, Clayton caught 23 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns.

Colts owner Jim Irsay isn't happy with the state of contract talks with Peyton Manning. Irsay believes the team's last offer to their franchise quarterback before the lockout was good enough to complete a deal. "It should get done," Irsay said. "If you ask me, it should have gotten done. You'll have to ask (Manning's agent) Tom Condon why it's not done." Manning is scheduled to receive $23 million next season as the Colts' franchise player, but the sides would rather agree on a long-term contract. "(Peyton had) always said, 'It's not about money to me, it's not about how much money I make. It's about making sure we have a great team, making sure I'm surrounded by other players that can be re-signed,'" Irsay told NFL Network's Albert Breer. "The Pierre Garcons, the Austin Collies. The young guys that make the difference. "The money's there," he added. "I'm already offering more than any player's being paid in the league. So why wouldn't it get done?"

In need of a big-time wide receiver, the Rams will at least take a look at troublemakers Plaxico Burress and Randy Moss, according to team insiders. "But there are obvious issues with both of them," said one team insider. "Unlike Michael Vick, who was 28 [nearly 29] when he got out of prison, Burress will be 34 years old [in August]. Moss is a bit more intriguing, but it really does seem like he's no longer a difference maker. He didn't do anything with the Titans."

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti says the team's goal is to have Joe Flacco signed to a contract extension by 2012. Bisciotti doesn't want Flacco to enter the final year of his deal not knowing that his future is in Baltimore. "I hate to speak for [Ravens General Manager] Ozzie [Newsome], but I would imagine that like John Harbaugh, we would be starting negotiations with [Flacco] so that entering 2012 he won't be playing in his final year," the owner told The Baltimore Sun at the annual owners meetings. "I would anticipate an extension that starts in 2012."
