Sources: Bears Will Franchise Forte If No Deal Is Reached

Nov 15, 2014 6:52 PM

The Bears will use their franchise tag on Matt Forte barring a contract breakthrough between now and February, according to sources. Chicago applied the franchise tag on Forte, it means he would be paid the average of the top five 2011 running back salaries for the 2012 season. After failing to reach an agreement during the preseason, Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said the sides agreed to table the talks until after the season.

Randy Moss 'Listening' To Phone Calls From Teams

Aug 5, 2014 2:58 PM

Randy Moss is apparently generating some interest from NFL teams as the season nears its midpoint. "He's listening. He's got one ear to the phone," reports Jason LaCanfora of The NFL Network. LaCanfora reports that a team calls Moss every 10 days to two weeks to gauge his interest but it will take a certain situation to make it happen --- "if the right team called at the right time with the right quarterback at the right price."

Arena League Team Offers Contract To OWens

Jul 14, 2014 9:01 PM

Terrell Owens hasn't received an offer from an NFL team, but he has been extended a contract offer from an Arena Football League team. The Chicago Rush, in one of those obvious minor-league cheap publicity stunts, have extended an offer to Owens to join the team for the 2012 season.

Carlos Rogers Seeks Extension From 49ers

Oct 30, 2014 11:29 AM

49ers veteran cornerback Carlos Rogers would like to remain with the team for quite some time. "If we can get something worked out, that would be great," Rogers said. "My agent (Todd France) knows that I like what's going on here. I want to be here. This has been great for me, and I would love to get something worked out for five, six years." Rogers signed a one-year, $4.25 million contract with the 49ers in the offseason after seeing many of the other top free agents sign lucrative multi-year deals around the NFL.

Patriots Will Evaluate Terrell Owens

Oct 30, 2014 11:17 AM

Terrell Owens will hold a workout of sorts on Tuesday in California and the Patriots are one of the teams that will evaluate the free-agent wide receiver. Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio said in a conference call on Monday that the Patriots will evaluate Owens, just as they would any free agent holding workouts during the season. "I think he's no different than a lot of the other players that have been on the street," said Caserio. "We'll evaluate those players when they're available. We'll look at our situation, and then just make the determination, if that's something that makes sense for us. He's no different than however many other free agents are out there currently."

Titans Would Be Interested In Healthy Owens

Jul 8, 2014 6:05 AM

Titans coach Mike Munchak says that his team would probably consider signing free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens if he is healthy enough to pass a physical. "That's something that at some point when (Owens') health is better and he can pass a physical -- people thought the midpoint of the season, maybe -- he might be a guy that may be able to work out to prove where he's at," Munchak said. " "So of course us, or whoever else, is going to take a look, just like we have with other free agents, to see what kind of shape he's in. "A lot is going to depend for us on how we are producing at that position three weeks or two weeks from now," Munchak added. "All those things will factor into it. But I'm sure whenever you've got a player that has his capabilities, everyone's going to know exactly where he's at. If he has a way of helping our team win, then for sure you're going to take a look at him." The Titans have been desperate for help at the receiver position since losing star playmaker Kenny Britt for the season with torn knee ligaments in Week 3.

Talks Between Saints, Brees Slowing Down

May 22, 2014 2:50 PM

Negotiations between the Saints and quarterback Drew Brees on a long-term contract have slowed considerably in recent weeks, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Because of the breakdown in progress, it is looking more and more like New Orleans will wait to see how the season plays out, place their franchise tag on the quarterback and then try to work out a long-term deal in the offseason. If the Saints use the exclusive version of the tag, Brees can't even talk to another team.
