Philip Rivers Would Welcome Antonio Gates Back With Chargers

May 30, 2018 9:13 AM

Philip Rivers would welcome Antonio Gates back with the Los Angeles Chargers in the wake of Hunter Henry's torn right ACL.

"I would always be excited if he walked back in the door, obviously," Rivers said of the tight end. "But that's something that [GM] Tom [Telesco], [president of football operations] John [Spanos] and Coach [Anthony Lynn] -- all of those guys I'm sure would discuss and see about bringing anybody in for that matter. But certainly he would get my vote."

The Chargers lost Henry for the year when he suffered a season-ending knee injury during OTAs. Rivers said he talked with Gates about a possible return.

"I have talked to him, and I'll kind of leave that between us," Rivers said. "He first, like I said, he hated it for Hunter. If something were to happen down the road, he wouldn't have wanted it to come that way, with Hunter's absence. So that was really more of our conversation.

"But he's doing good. I think this time of year for him, even in these last few years of his career, I don't know if he's doing a ton different than he was. He stayed ready. He wasn't here this time of year a ton. He was always getting himself ready and with his family and children. So I'm sure he's in shape and will be ready if called on, if that's something he's interested in."

Richie Incognito Reverses Decision On Retirement

May 22, 2018 8:31 AM

Richie Incognito informed the Buffalo Bills that he wants to play again, according to a source.

The offensive lineman retired in April.

The Bills released Incognito from the reserve/retired list, making him a free agent now able to sign with any team.

Incognito was placed on the retired list April 12, two days after Incognito informed the NFL Players Association in a tweet that he was "done" playing football. The 34-year-old later told The Buffalo News that he made the decision for health-related reasons, saying, "My liver and kidneys are shutting down. The stress is killing me."

Marcus Peters: Rams Need To Pay Aaron Donald

May 22, 2018 8:27 AM

Marcus Peters is new to the Los Angeles Rams, but he quickly developed an opinion on Aaron Donald's contract situation.

"Pay the man," Peters said after the team's first OTAs.

Donald did not report for voluntary OTAs because of an ongoing contract dispute. Sean McVay said that he doesn't anticipate seeing Donald until a resolution is reached.

"It is something that we want to get resolved," McVay said. "As far as a timetable, don't really have any dates on that."

Donald, who turns 27 on Wednesday, is entering the fifth year of his rookie contract and is scheduled to earn $6.89 million, but he is seeking to become one of the highest-paid players in the league.

May 21, 2018 7:21 PM

Le'Veon Bell plans on skipping the Pittsburgh Steelers' organized team activities.

Bell remains unsigned after the Steelers used the franchise tag on him for the second straight season.

Bell didn't report until September after the two sides were unable to agree upon a long-term contract.

Bell could earn $14.5 million on the tag, which he considers his contractual floor for a per-year payout on a long-term deal.
