LSU Fires Les Miles As Head Coach

Sep 25, 2016 8:03 PM

Les Miles has been fired by LSU as head coach with Ed Orgeron replacing him on an interim basis.

"Decisions like this are never easy ones to make," vice chancellor and director of athletics Joe Alleva said in a statement Sunday night. "Coach Miles has done a tremendous job here and he's been a great ambassador for our University, which makes this even more difficult.

"However, it's apparent in evaluating the program through the first month of the season that a change has to be made. Our commitment to excellence and competing at the highest level is unwavering, and our goals for the remainder of this season haven't changed. We have an obligation to our student-athletes to put them in the best position to have success on the football field each week and we have great confidence that coach Orgeron will do just that."

Miles was head coach for 12 years and survived a coup attempt last season.

Miles posted a 75-18 record (41-15 in SEC play) in his first seven seasons at LSU -- a stretch that included three SEC West titles, two SEC titles, a BCS championship and another title game appearance.

Alabama Doubles Lane Kiffin's Pay To $1.4M Per Season

Sep 9, 2016 1:47 PM

The salary of Lane Kiffin at Alabama has doubled to $1.4 million.

It runs from July 1, 2016 to Feb. 28, 2017.

Kiffin made $714,000 last season under a three-year deal that ran through this season.

Kiffin had been receiving a buyout from USC.

"It was a significant amount and that ended June 30 of this year," athletic director Bill Battle told trustees. "It is what the top coordinators are making and Lane has been very effective for us the two years that he's been here. We feel like this is very appropriate for what he should be making."
