NCAA Settles Suit By Creating $70M Fund To Diagnose Brain Trauma

Jul 29, 2014 2:32 PM

The NCAA agreed Tuesday to settle a class-action head-injury lawsuit by creating a $70 million fund to diagnose thousands of current and former college athletes to determine if they suffered brain trauma playing football, hockey, soccer and other contact sports.

College sports' governing body also agreed to implement a single return-to-play policy spelling out how all teams must treat players who received head blows, according to a Tuesday filing in U.S. District Court in Chicago. Critics have accused the NCAA of giving too much discretion to hundreds of individual schools about when athletes can go back into games, putting them at risk.

No. 1 WR Junior Nate Craig Commits To Auburn

Jul 25, 2014 7:53 PM

Nate Craig, the No. 1 ranked wide receiver and No. 6 player overall in the ESPN Junior 300, has committed to Auburn.

Craig chose Auburn over USC, Alabama and Ohio State.

"I just thought Auburn was the best fit for me," Craig said. "I got to go up there this weekend and spend some time with coach [Dameyune] Craig and coach [Gus] Malzahn and that just sealed the deal for me. I was at Alabama for the whole week, but just building a relationship with the Auburn coaches and coach Craig was a big impact on my recruitment and did a great job. With coach Malzahn I got to spend some time with him and then I sat down with my mom and decided to make a decision."

The athletic pass-catcher who totaled 37 receptions for 502 yards and 12 receiving touchdowns as a sophomore, said Auburn fans can expect to get a hard working player when he gets on campus.

"I'm a hard working - humble guy," he said. "A guy that is going to make his teammates better and keep my head on straight on and off the field and it's going to be a fun time playing in front of the War Eagle fans."

Maty Mauk Compares Style To Johnny Manziel

Sep 9, 2014 2:58 PM

Maty Mauk of Missouri has compared himself in style to Johnny Manziel.

"I feel like I have the ability to do similar things, and that's what people are expecting of me back in Columbia (Mo.)," Mauk said Wednesday at SEC Media Days.

Mauk threw 11 touchdowns and two interceptions while filling in for the injured James Franklin last season.

"The stuff he could do was unbelievable. People had never (seen) it. You're a freshman Heisman Trophy winner," Mauk said. "He could turn anything into a big play. That's what I liked about him, and that's why I watch him on film."
