Nike's Phil Knight Defends Joe Paterno

Oct 16, 2014 4:18 AM

Anger and resentment came spilling out at a campus memorial service Thursday for football coach Joe Paterno, two months after he was summarily fired by the trustees. It was Nike founder and CEO Phil Knight who broke the dam, defending Paterno’s handling of child-sex allegations that were leveled against a former coaching assistant. “If there is a villain in this tragedy, it lies in that investigation and not in Joe Paterno’s response,” Knight said.

His family released a statement Sunday morning to announce his death: "His loss leaves a void in our lives that will never be filled."

Colts Will Draft Luck Or Griffin No Matter What Happens With Peyton

Oct 7, 2014 1:09 PM

The Colts have the first pick in April's NFL Draft and owner Jim Irsay says the selection will be used on a quarterback no matter what happens with Peyton Manning. Indianapolis plans to select either Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III. "With Griffin and Luck and the way it's shaping up at the top of the draft — could very likely go one and two like with Peyton and Ryan Leaf," Irsay told ESPN. "It's most likely one of those quarterbacks that you really feel is the best player in the draft, and where we're at moving forward you can't pass that up. I don't think anyone would expect that."
