NCAA Places 3-Year Hold On New Bowl Games

Oct 14, 2014 9:44 PM

The NCAA has created a new task force to look at the criteria and process for licensing Division I bowls and will place a three-year moratorium on new bowls, according to an Associated Press report on Thursday. The task force of no more than 10 people will be co-chaired by Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman and another to-be-named person from outside higher education and athletics. It will look at governance and oversight by bowl sponsoring agencies, conflict-of-interest rules and policies, advertising and title-sponsorship standards, along with oversight and reporting of financial management of bowl games.

UNC Stars Projected High Despite Lost Season

Apr 24, 2014 8:13 PM

North Carolina defensive end Robert Quinn and defensive tackle Marvin Austin are projected to be high picks despite their lost 2010 season. The two defensive prospects missed all of the 2010 campaign as punishment for accepting gifts from agents. The severe sanctions left the two players without the ability to improve their football talents in a team-oriented, supervised situation. "We have to spend a lot more time on those guys," Seahawks general manager John Schneider said of players with that missing block of game tape. "You do more digging, and you have to talk to more people. The psychological part of it ... some of these guys have missed time for suspensions, so you're looking at the security backgrounds. Juniors in general, whether they have issues or not, they're a little nerve-wracking, because you're not ... you just don't know enough about the guys."

Fairley On Critics: 'My Best Years Are Ahead'

Jul 12, 2014 1:11 AM

Auburn defense tackle Nick Fairley is doing his best to ignore critics that question his work ethic, consistency and character. His best, which he describes as "in one ear and out the other," is an effort to keep it all from becoming too stressful. "As far as that's concerned, when that comes out, it just motivates me more to work harder, to prove to whoever is out there saying that (they're wrong)," Fairley said. "I can't wait to get into the NFL and get started to prove it to all those people who said I'm a one-hit wonder, or that my work ethic is under question, or that I have character issues. ... I'm ready to prove them wrong and let them know Nick Fairley is here. I'm ready to work."
