Bowl Championship Series officials rejected a plan on Wednesday to turn the controversial system for deciding a national champion into a four-team playoff, starting in the 2010 season, according to an Associated Press report.

Coming into the season, new UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel had a decision about who will be his starting QB in 2008 with Patrick Cowan and Ben Olson as the top candidates, as reported by ESPN.com. While not the way Neuheisel had planned, that decision was made easier after he found out Cowan will undergo surgery on the ACL in his left knee and will miss the entire season, according to L.A.-area media reports.

Nebraska fans couldn?t wait to see what Bo Pelini?s Cornhuskers had to offer. Nebraska?s first spring game under the new coach drew a school-record crowd of 80,149, with some tickets selling for upward of $100, according to an Associated Press report.

Norm Chow, UCLA's offensive coordinator, was expecting a smoother performance by the offense, especially the quarterbacks. "They have a good understanding of what we're trying to get done," Chow said. "The front guys are getting the most reps, so you see more improvement in them. Guys are reacting instead of thinking now."

Officials from the Washington, D.C. Bowl Committee have submitted a formal proposal for the new Congressional Bowl, which potentially would involve Navy and a team from the ACC or Mid-American Conference. A decision is expected within the next two weeks. The game would likely be played at RFK Stadium or Nationals Park.

According to a report on ESPN.com, Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan will have surgery on his right hip on Monday. The injury isn't expected to slow him down much, but the rehabilitation process typically lasts between eight and twelve weeks for this type of procedure. "You won't notice anything wrong with my passing," said Brennan.
