Deshaun Watson Suspended 11 Games, Fined $5M

Aug 18, 2022 12:03 PM

The NFL and NFLPA have agreed to a settlement on the discipline of Deshaun Watson of 11 games. Watson will also be fined $5 million for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Watson has been accused of sexual assault by more than 20 women.

Watson's first game with the Cleveland Browns will be Week 13 at the Houston Texans. The Texans traded Watson to the Browns this offseason.

The settlement between the two sides heads off a ruling from former New Jersey attorney general Peter C. Harvey, whom commissioner Roger Goodell appointed to oversee the NFL's appeal of disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson's decision that Watson be issued a six-game suspension.

NFL Strips Dolphins Of 2023 First Round Pick Over Tampering

Aug 2, 2022 1:27 PM

The Miami Dolphins have been stripped of their 2023 first round pick for tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton.

Furthermore, Stephen Ross received a $1.5 million fine and suspended throuh Oct. 17th.

The Dolphins violated the anti-tampering policy on three occasions from 2019 to 2022 in conversations with Brady and the agent for Sean Payton. Don Yee represents both Brady and Payton.

In addition to the first-round pick, the Dolphins also will forfeit their 2024 third-round selection.

In February, former Dolphins coach Brian Flores filed a lawsuit against the NFL and the Dolphins, alleging racism in the league's hiring practices. In the lawsuit, Flores claims that Ross attempted to incentivize him to "tank," or purposely lose games, shortly after he was hired in 2019, with Ross allegedly offering Flores $100,000 for every loss that season. Flores says that as the team won games late in the season, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier told him Ross was "mad" that the on-field success was "compromising [the team's] draft position."

The NFL looked into these allegations as part of its aforementioned investigation but found no evidence that the team intentionally lost games during the 2019 season.
