Tony Romo Re-Signs With CBS On $17M Per Year Deal

Feb 28, 2020 9:34 PM

Tony Romo has agreed to the largest sports analyst contract in television history to remain with CBS.

Romo will earn $17 million per season and will be for more than five seasons, putting the total value above $100 million.

ESPN would have become eligible to negotiate with Romo beginning in March. CBS anticipated ESPN bidding approximately $20 million per season.

Romo's initial deal with CBS was for approximately $10 million over three years.

John Madden previously had the NFL's richest broadcasting deal at $8 million per year, which would be worth $14 million when adjusted for inflation.

Bill Belichick To Decide What To Offer Tom Brady

Feb 28, 2020 12:19 PM

Bill Belichick is expected to decide what type of offer to extend to Tom Brady this offseason.

Brady is currently approaching his free agency with the expectation of leaving the Patriots.

But at least one source wonders if Robert Kraft will intervene and force Belichick to do whatever it takes to keep Brady as some believe the New England owner did in 2017 when the Patriots traded Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers for a second round pick.

Looking to add life to their offense, the Chicago Bears are expected to pursue Austin Hooper in free agency.

The Atlanta Falcons have admitted they will let Hooper test free agency.

"This offense, a lot of it goes through the tight end," Matt Nagy said. "We’re exploring every avenue."

Cowboys Haven't Ruled Out Reunion With Dez Bryant

Feb 28, 2020 7:54 AM

Jerry Jones hasn't ruled out bringing Dez Bryant back to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys released the wide receiver following the 2017 season.

"I've been thinking about it a lot in the shower," Jones said. "I have been. I'm not dismissing it. I don't want to sound like it should be dismissed by saying it. I'm thinking about it."

Bryant has been working out very close to the team's facility in Frisco, Texas. He suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his first practice with the New Orleans Saints in 2018. He was not on a roster last season.

Alabama's Henry Ruggs Runs 4.27 In 40-Yard Dash

Feb 28, 2020 7:50 AM

Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs flashed excellent speed at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday, but didn't set the record he had hoped for in Indianapolis.

Ruggs officially ran 4.27 in his first attempt at the 40-year-dash, and followed with an unofficial 4.31.

John Ross ran a 4.22-second 40-yard dash in 2017, which is considered the record in the combine's electronic timing format that began in 1999. Bo Jackson's hand-timed 4.12 in 1986 has long been considered the best time.

Jon Gruden Eager To 'Build Around' Derek Carr

Feb 28, 2020 12:19 PM

Jon Gruden gave Derek Carr a serious vote of confidence as the quarterback of the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday.

"I really think Derek is a heck of a player and I got a lot of respect for what he has done with some tough circumstances," Gruden said.

"So I'm not going to answer every media rumor out there. I just can't do it. I'm just going to listen to my Sirius Rock n' Roll classic vinyl [station] and keep working. But I love what Derek Carr did, love what he brings to our team and anxious to continue to build around him."

Carr signed a five-year, $125 million contract extension in June of 2017.

The Raiders have been linked to Tom Brady.

DeMaurice Smith Confident New CBA Will Be Passed

Feb 27, 2020 9:56 PM

Despite public opposition from several superstars, NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith is confident the new CBA will be approved.

“For a player that doesn’t want 17 [games] under any reason,” Smith said, “those players will vote their conscience.”

About 60 percent of the players earn the NFL minimum salary, which jumps by about $100,000 in 2020 and tops $1 million per year by 2029.

“There was a concerted effort that they wanted this CBA to go to those core players,” Smith said Thursday, before speaking to agents at the NFL Combine.

Chase Young Declares Himself Best Player In 2020 NFL Draft

Feb 27, 2020 9:31 PM

Chase Young believes he is the best player in the 2020 NFL Draft.

"That first day at [training] camp, when I step on the field, I want to be the best player I can be. I don't want to waste time trying to be a combine athlete,'' Young said Thursday. "I need to know I put my best foot forward trying to be the best player I can be."

Joe Burrow will almost certainly be the top pick in the draft, but Young feels he's the better player.

"I definitely think I'm the best player in the draft,'' Young said. "I think I showed on my tape, you can look at every game, I think I showed [it]. I think I put my best foot forward this year. ... I think I bring a lot to the table, the whole package as a defensive end.''

Tom Brady Entering Free Agency With Intention Of Leaving Patriots

Feb 27, 2020 11:47 AM

Tom Brady currently believes he will enter free agency with the intention of playing somewhere other than the New England Patriots.

There is a belief, however, that the Patriots will have an opportunity to convince Brady to re-sign with the franchise. At this point, Brady is evaluating his options with the intention of leaving.

Brady and Bill Belichick have yet to schedule a meeting.

Brady cannot begin negotiating with other teams until the NFL's legal tampering period opens March 16. Brady turns 43 in August and threw for 4,057 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2019.
