Washington Was Interested In Trade For Joe Flacco

Feb 18, 2019 9:46 AM

The Baltimore Ravens will trade Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos once the league year turns over on March 13.

The Broncos became motivated to agree to a deal to acquire Flacco because the Washington Redskins were seriously interested in the quarterback as well.

Colin Kaepernick 'Absolutely' Still Wants To Play

Feb 18, 2019 9:44 AM

Colin Kaepernick "absolutely wants to play" in the NFL, his attorney told CNN over the weekend.

Attorney Mark Geragos projected the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots as potential landing spots.

"I think you're going to see ... within the next two weeks that somebody is going to step up and do the right thing, and you want me to predict who?" Geragos said. "Besides the Panthers, it would not surprise me if [Patriots owner] Bob Kraft makes a move."

Colin Kaepernick's Settlement Unlikely To Prohibit Return To NFL

Feb 16, 2019 9:50 PM

Colin Kaepernick's lawsuit settlement with the NFL likely doesn't preclude him from returning to the league in the future.

Kaepernick and the NFL reached a settlement for an undisclosed sum on Friday.

“He absolutely wants to play,” Kaepernick's attorney Mark Geragos said. “He wants to compete at the highest level. This is a competitive young man.”

Kaepernick hasn't played since 2016.

Geragos emphasized that Kaepernick remains ready to play.

“I will tell you, he is the most fit vegan I have ever seen in my life,” Geragos said. “To my somewhat trained eye, he looks like he’s ready to play.”

NFL Settles Collusion Lawsuit With Colin Kaepernick, Eric Reid

Feb 15, 2019 5:15 PM

Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid have reached a settlement deal with the NFL over their collusion grievances.

"For the past several months, counsel for Mr. Kaepernick and Mr. Reid have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL," attorney Mark Geragos and the NFL said in a joint statement issued Friday. "As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances. The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement so there will be no further comment by any party."

Kaepernick drew national attention in 2016 when he knelt during the national anthem before games to protest social injustice.

Kaepernick and Reid faced a difficult challenge to meet the burden of proof for collusion as defined in the league's CBA. The statute makes clear that unemployment alone does not mean collusion occurred.

According to the CBA: "The failure by a club or clubs to negotiate, to submit offer sheets, or to sign contracts with restricted free agents or transition players, or to negotiate, make offers, or sign contracts for the playing services of such players or unrestricted free agents, shall not, by itself or in combination only with evidence about the playing skills of the player(s) not receiving any such offer or contract, satisfy the burden of proof set forth ...."

To prove collusion, according to the CBA, Kaepernick and Reid would have had to show that a "club, its employees or agents" had "entered into an agreement" to restrict or limit whether to offer them a contract.

CBS Pushing To Extend Current TV Contract With NFL

Feb 15, 2019 5:13 PM

CBS is pushing to extend their current deal with the NFL.

Their current contract runs through the 2022 season.

CBS has been “very good for the NFL,” said Sean McManus, chairman of CBS Sports.

“I think they love the reach of broadcast,” said Joseph Ianniello, CBS’s president and acting chief executive, of whether NFL might take a major package of games off broadcast television. “I don’t think you ever want to cut off your core audience.”

Ratings this season were up 5 percent for the NFL.

Ravens Will Tailor Offense Towards Lamar Jackson

Feb 15, 2019 8:41 AM

New offensive coordinator Greg Roman is trying to rebuild the Baltimore Ravens' offense from scratch.

"We're literally redefining everything we do as a staff, as a group," Roman said. "Literally, everything: every formation, every route, every run, every route concept. How can we make this offense -- which up until this point has been good -- we're trying to make it as great as we can be."

The Ravens' offense ranked ninth in 2018, 27th in 2017 and 17th in 2016 under Marty Mornhinweg.

"What's it going to look like?" Roman said. "It's going to look like how our players tell us it should look like. Obviously with Lamar at quarterback, it's going to be tailored towards Lamar."

Adam Silver Hasn't Given Any Thought To NFL Inquires

Feb 15, 2019 8:32 AM

Adam Silver says he hasn't "given any thought" to inquiries by owners about his willingness to switch leagues and become commissioner of the NFL.

Silver didn't confirm that he had been approached by NFL owners, but sources claim that several owners have tried to persuade Silver to run their league over the course of his five years as the NBA's commissioner.

"I'll just say I have not given it any thought," Silver told ESPN. "I feel very fortunate to be in this position. As a longtime fan, as a longtime league employee, the opportunity to become the commissioner of this league was beyond anything I even ever dreamed of as a kid.

"I've loved every day I've been in this job, and I think there's nothing but enormous opportunity ahead for this league. And ultimately, I realize I'm just passing through like every player who's gone through this league and ultimately like every owner, and I feel an enormous obligation to the fans and to this greater NBA family to do my best and try my hardest every day. But that's where 100 percent of my focus is."
