Janoris Jenkins Likely To Join Playoff Contender By Week 16

Dec 15, 2019 4:07 PM

Janoris Jenkins is expected to join a playoff contender by next weekend.

The New York Giants released Jenkins after he called a fan a "retard" on Twitter.

Jenkins said Thursday that the usage of the word was "slang" that is "just part of my culture."

The Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans have a need at cornerback and could claim Jenkins.

George Kittle Expected To Raise Bar On Tight End Contracts

Dec 15, 2019 4:06 PM

George Kittle is expected to sign a new contract with the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason.

Kittle is scheduled to make $735,000 next season in the final season of his four-year rookie contract.

Austin Hooper and Zach Ertz are two additional tight ends who could command new deals this offseason.

Minnesota's Kyle Rudolph ($9.35 million) is the NFL's highest-paid tight end this season in terms of total cash income on non-rookie deals, followed by Green Bay's Jimmy Graham ($9 million) and Kansas City's Travis Kelce ($8.75 million).

Jaguars Could Make Regime Change In Offseason

Dec 15, 2019 3:58 PM

Significant changes are expected for the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason.

Head coach Doug Marrone, executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin and general manager Dave Caldwell run the Jaguars and the futures of all three men are uncertain.

Some believe it will be challenging for Marrone to keep his job while Coughlin could step aside to spend more time with his family.

The Jaguars were in the AFC Championship Game in the 2017 season, but the past two seasons have been disappointing.

Vic Fangio Wants To See NFL Drop Divisions Format

Dec 13, 2019 8:51 AM

First-year Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio has vocalized his support for change to the NFL's playoffs format.

Whoever wins the NFC East, either the Dallas Cowboys or Philadelphia Eagles, will host a team with a much better record in the Wild Card round this year.

"Since the league went to 32 teams, which was when the Texans came in in 2002, my ideal suggestion -- which has never been put forth in front of anybody important -- I don't think there should be divisions," Fangio said.

"I think you've got 16 in each conference. Everybody should play each other once. That's 15 games. Then if you want a 16th game, you play a natural rival from the other conference-Jets and Giants play every year. Eagles-Steelers, Texans-Cowboys, etcetera, play every year. Then keep it at 16 games, but you'll avoid the problem that's going to happen this year where probably an 8-8 team is hosting a 12-4 team.''

The solution would certainly solve the problem of division winners with weak records getting into the playoffs.

"You're going to get the six best teams in each conference," Fangio said. "The divisions always float. There are some that are easy some years, some that have a bunch of good teams, that switches back and forth every couple years.

"I just think that'd be a good way to avoid it, but I'm not for 17 games. I think it should stay at 16."

Jarvis Landry: Odell Beckham Isn't Trying To Leave Cleveland

Dec 13, 2019 8:43 AM

There have been reports that Odell Beckham, Jr. is looking to leave the Cleveland Browns, but one of his teammates isn't buying the rumors.

"It's not even about trying to go somewhere else," Jarvis Landry said. "For him, he's a guy that comes to work every day. He's a guy that's playing through injuries. All the things you want out of a player. ...  He doesn't want to leave and he's not trying to leave."

Beckham and Landry were also teammates in college at LSU.

Todd Gurley Miffed By Jared Goff's 'Vintage' Compliment

Dec 13, 2019 8:40 AM

Jared Goff intended to compliment Todd Gurley, but his running back wasn't pleased with his choice of words.

On a touchdown run in last week's win over the Seattle Seahawks, Gurley tangled with cornerback Tre Flowers and threw a stiff-arm that caught Goff's attention.

"He's a bad dude," Goff said. "It was vintage Todd."

Gurley took offense to the use of the word vintage.

"Sounds like I suck and then I made a good play," Gurley said straight-faced, with a shrug. "So, yeah, I guess so."

"Not my first time stiff-arming nobody," he added. "Just a regular stiff-arm."

Lamar Jackson Breaks Michael Vick's Single-Season Rushing Record

Dec 13, 2019 8:34 AM

Lamar Jackson made NFL history in Thursday night's victory over the New York Jets.

Jackson broke Michael Vick's single-season rushing record by a quarterback on the Baltimore Ravens' opening drive.

"It's pretty cool," Jackson said. "My favorite player growing up. It's amazing, and I'm going to cherish that forever and just got to keep it going. Records are made to be broken, like he said. I heard him say that, and it's an honor for me to do it."

The second-year quarterback entered Thursday's game needing 23 yards to surpass Vick's mark of 1,039 yards set in 2006. That record was shattered on Jackson's third run of the game.
