Dwayne Haskins Excited About Possibility He'll Start

Oct 31, 2019 8:28 AM

With Case Keenum still in the concussion protocol, Dwayne Haskins took first-team reps in practice on Wednesday.

There's a chance Haskins will start at quarterback for the Washington Redskins on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

"I get hyped every day I get to put a helmet on," Haskins said. "Even more excited to put a first start on film, even more excited about it."

Haskins has seen limited action in two games. He's 12-for-22 with 140 yards, with no touchdowns and four interceptions.

Ravens Expect To Give Patriots 'Run For Their Money'

Oct 31, 2019 8:24 AM

The Baltimore Ravens are underdogs heading into Sunday night's game against the undefeated New England Patriots, but they don't lack confidence.

"We'll see how good they are once we play them," tight end Nick Boyle said. "I don't think they've seen anyone like our offense or like Lamar [Jackson]. They're a good team and we'll need to bring our 'A' game."

The Patriots, who are 8-0, are the only team since 1970 to lead the NFL in points allowed, takeaways and sacks through Week 8.

Jackson is having a historic season as well. He's the only quarterback in NFL history to pass for 1,600 yards and rush for 500 yards through the first seven games of a season.

"We're definitely the type of team that's prepared to play this team and definitely one that's going to give them a run for their money," defensive tackle Brandon Williams said.

Baker Mayfield Gets Testy In Exchange With Reporter

Oct 31, 2019 8:20 AM

Baker Mayfield got into a heated exchange with a reporter on Wednesday before walking out of his media availability.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback was asked if the team lacked urgency on a possession at the end of the first half during Sunday's 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots.

Mayfield interjected during a follow-up question.

"Stop saying 'but.' I just told you the clock was running and we had a penalty," Mayfield said to Tony Grossi, a reporter for 850 WKNR radio. "You want to give them the ball back? No. You don't play, you don't know it. That's just plain and simple."

Grossi then asked if Mayfield was happy with the way the drive ended.

"Was I happy with the drive? No, we didn't score points," Mayfield answered. "The dumbest question you could ask. What? Jesus, Tony."

Mayfield then walked away from the lectern.

Grossi said later on WKNR that it was not the first time he had been at odds with Mayfield this season.

NFL Receives It Lowest Score For Racial, Gender Hiring In 15 Years

Oct 30, 2019 3:16 PM

A new diversity report has given the NFL its lowest overall score in racial and gender hiring in 15 years.

The NFL received a B for racial hiring practices and a C-plus for gender hiring practices. This gave the NFL a combined B-minus grade for its overall score of 79.3%, a notable decrease from its score of 81.6% last year.

“Almost all of this is attributed to drop in head coach of color and general managers of color, because we put additional weight on those positions,” Richard Lapchick told The Associated Press.

Gardner Minshew Can't 'Worry' About Nick Foles' Potential Return

Oct 30, 2019 9:56 AM

Nick Foles is eligible to return to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11, but Gardner Minshew is trying to remain focused on the field.

"It's something I can't really worry about right now," the rookie quarterback said. "Every half-way competitive guy ever, you want to be the guy out there helping your team win, there is no doubt about that. But at the end of the day, we just want to win, and whatever we've got to do to make it happen, we're going to do it."

Foles broke his collarbone in Week 1.

"It's been crazy," the rookie said of being thrust into the starting lineup. "I knew at some point I'd get an opportunity to play. I didn't think it would be the first quarter of the first game, like how it went. But I've been trying to do my job. A lot of guys have been working hard."

Brandin Cooks Headed To See Concussion Specialist

Oct 30, 2019 9:53 AM

Brandin Cooks will travel to Pittsburgh to see a concussion specialist, according to Sean McVay.

Cooks has suffered four concussions since Super Bowl LII and two in the last month.

"He's feeling good," McVay said. "He's very aware of what's going on and he can talk about what occurred pre-concussion. He's aware . ... We are going to send him to a specialist. He's actually on his way there in Pittsburgh. I'm trying to see if we can get a little bit more clarity, because most important is Brandin Cooks as a human being right now, not necessarily the football player. Let's get a better idea of what's exactly is going on, so that we can at least make the best decision for him moving forward. Hopefully, being able to do that will give us some answers we'll find more information about that."

Jamal Adams: Jets GM 'Went Behind My Back'

The New York Jets may have a potential rift building between Jamal Adams and general manager Joe Douglas.

Douglas didn't end up making any trades before Tuesday afternoon's deadline.

Adams attacked the general manager on Twitter, saying he told Douglas last week that he wanted to remain with the Jets but he "went behind my back and shopped me around to teams, even after I asked him to keep me here! Crazy business."

According to reports, the Jets talked with multiple teams about the safety.
