Earl Thomas Flips Off Seahawks' Sideline While Being Carted Off Field

Sep 30, 2018 7:01 PM

Earl Thomas flipped off the sideline of the Seattle Seahawks as he was being carted off the field with his left leg in an air cast.

Thomas had been in a contract dispute with the Seahawks as they were unwilling to sign him to a long-term deal.

Thomas presumably was directing his ire towards Pete Carroll.

Seahawks Still Seeking 2019 2nd Round Pick For Earl Thomas

Sep 30, 2018 1:23 PM

The Seattle Seahawks remain open to trading Earl Thomas but they remain adamant on receiving a 2019 second round pick in return for him.

The Chiefs were unwilling to meet that price but would be interested if the Seahawks were to lower their demands. The Cowboys offered a second-round pick at one point during the preseason, but Seattle wanted more from Dallas.

Thomas is widely expected to leave the Seahawks in 2019.

Pete Carroll said earlier this week that the Seahawks and Thomas are "in a good place" despite the star safety's ongoing contract dispute with the team.

49ers Not Interested In Nick Foles, Colin Kaepernick

Sep 30, 2018 12:15 PM

The San Francisco 49ers are comfortable with starting C.J. Beathard at quarterback and aren't interested in acquiring a high profile quarterback such as Nick Foles or Colin Kaepernick.

Some within the NFL are hoping the 49ers would trade for Foles as they have five prime-time games on their schedule.

Some fans of the 49ers have lobbied the team to sign Kaepernick.

One team source said, they think Beathard will "be productive."

The 49ers lost Jimmy Garoppolo for the season due to a torn ACL.

Steelers Have Yet To Receive Serious Interest In Le'Veon Bell

Sep 30, 2018 12:09 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to progress on trade talks involving Le'Veon Bell to a serious stage.

Some teams have inquired with Pittsburgh on Bell but none have been aggressive.

Bell's continued absence from Pittsburgh has raised questions about what his future salary could and would be if the Steelers, or any team that traded for him, used the transition tag on him this offseason.

The longer Bell stays away, the more his salary for this season drops, which could dramatically affect what he earns in 2019.

If Bell were to report to the Steelers next week, the most cash he could make this year would be $11.12 million; and 120 percent of that number under the transition tag would be $13.346 million -- lower than the $14.534 he was scheduled to earn under the franchise tag this season.

Todd Gurley: Rams 'Can't Be Beat Right Now'

Sep 28, 2018 8:18 AM

The Los Angeles Rams put up 38 points against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night and at 4-0, Todd Gurley says they can't be defeated.

"Any team can be beat right now, but, nah, we can't be beat right now. No ifs, ands or buts about it," Gurley said.

The Rams totaled 556 yards against Minnesota's defense as they attacked on the ground and through the air.

"It's a blessing. It's a blessing for sure," Gurley said of playing with so many weapons.

"Just having these guys at receiver. The Arizona game (Week 2) -- they were depending on stopping the run -- I'm like, 'OK, it's going to be [the receivers' game]. And those guys went out there are tore it up. Like coach says, we don't feel pressure, we apply it. That's our motto. We try to go out there and attack and we got a great offensive line. You might know we're going to run the ball, but at the end of the day, you have to stop it."

Drew Brees Believes 80 Percent Completion Rate In Sustainable

Sep 28, 2018 8:12 AM

Through three games, Drew Brees has an 80.6% completion rate on his 129 passing attempts.

The NFL record over the course of a full season is 72%, which is held by Brees, who also leads the league in career percentage.

"I don't see why not," Brees said when asked if his current rate is sustainable. "Listen, it's not easy. ... It's identifying matchups, it's making sure you get positive plays and in just about every case, a completion is a positive play, right?"

Brees also owns the third, fourth, and ninth-best seasons in terms of accuracy.

Jay Ajayi Plans To Play Despite Fractured Back

Sep 28, 2018 8:04 AM

Jay Ajayi has a small fracture in his back, but plans to play when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

"You just have to roll with it until it heals on its own," he said. "You just have to protect it."

Ajayi injured his back in the first quarter of Philadelphia's Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He sat out last week's victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

The running back will be a free agent after the season.

Doug Baldwin 'Ready To Go' Following Knee Injury

Sep 28, 2018 8:00 AM

Doug Baldwin says he's "ready to go" after missing the Seattle Seahawks' last two games with a knee injury.

Baldwin is hoping Seattle's training staff clears him for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

"Again, that's going to be their call," he said. "There's a lot of things that go into it, obviously the precautionary reasons of making sure that I'm healthy fully, so that I can go for the rest of the season, not just this game. And I get that. But as a competitor and somebody that hasn't missed games that often, who had an 89-game streak, I feel like I know my body pretty well, so I feel like I'm ready to go."

Baldwin returned to practice this week for the first time since suffering an MCL sprain early in Seattle's opener at Denver.

Colin Kaepernick Remains Ready To Play In NFL

Sep 27, 2018 5:30 PM

Colin Kaepernick reiterated his desire and readiness to play in the NFL in a conversation with Kenny Stills.

Stills has been continuing to protest while Kaepernick and Eric Reid have remained unsigned.

"I said, 'What are you doing?' He said, 'Just came from a workout. I'm ready to go,'" Stills said after Thursday's practice. "He wants to play. He's good enough to play. He deserves to play. I'm not sure why a team hasn't signed him yet."

Stills said earlier this offseason that a good first step for the NFL to show its contrition would be to "admit what it is doing" to Kaepernick and Reid, then allow them back in the NFL.

Reid signed with the Panthers on Thursday.

"I'm happy that Eric is going to be playing. He's a game-changer on the defensive side of the ball," Stills told ESPN. "I'm excited to see him play. I definitely think he should have been signed a long time ago. As far as what it means, it means a team was finally able to look past the protest. I think we're making some progress as far as how the owners, teams and GMs are understanding what the protest is about.

"That's progress, but we still have one of the best quarterbacks in the league sitting at home waiting to be signed. That'll be the ultimate say of how people look back on the NFL at this point in time. You got one of the best guys not playing on a team and there are teams out there that need quarterbacks."
