Rob Gronkowski, Patriots Discussing New Deal

Aug 1, 2016 5:28 PM

Rob Gronkowski and the New England Patriots are discussing a new contract.

Gronkowski's agents were on hand for Sunday's practice. No deal is imminent at this point.

Gronkowski is currently playing under the eight-year, $55.23 million pact he signed in 2012. New England in March notably picked up the pass-catcher's $10 million option, which keeps Gronkowski locked in at a team-friendly amount through 2019.

Gronkowski has openly complained about his deal this offseason.

49ers Splitting QB Reps Evenly Between Gabbert, Kaepernick

Jul 31, 2016 7:12 PM

Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert are splitting reps at quarterback evenly for the San Francisco 49ers.

"We are going to split it right down the middle. I think we've got 24 reps today with the ones," Kelly said. "So (Colin Kaepernick) and Blaine (Gabbert) will split it right down the middle with the ones and twos."

Some believe Gabbert enters camp as the more likely starter for the 49ers.

Kaepernick, who underwent offseason surgeries on his right thumb and left knee in January after having left shoulder surgery in November, has a skill set that would seem to be ideal in Kelly's offense. But Gabbert has been more accurate in his career.

DeAndre Hopkins Ends Brief Holdout

Aug 1, 2016 5:29 PM

DeAndre Hopkins will report to camp with the Houston Texans despite his disappointment in not having an extension.

"I too am disappointed that the Texans organization has elected not to enter into contract negotiation to secure my future as a Texan," the statement read. "I have expressed my sincere position regarding my contract status and with sound mind have expressed my stands (sic) to the Texans organization.

"My focus also is on the 2016 season and to help my team reach our ultimate goal.

"Having said that I am returning to the Houston Texans to play for a Super Bowl in Houston, Texas. ... We are excited about returning to the team and grind this camp."

Hopkins is entering the fourth year of his rookie contract and is set to make $1.4 million this year.

DeAndre Hopkins Holding Out Of Texans' Camp

Jul 31, 2016 6:15 PM

DeAndre Hopkins is holding out of training camp as he seeks a new deal from the Houston Texans.

Hopkins, who is entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, did not report for the start of the Texans' camp, according to sources. He will be subject to fines of $40,000 for each day of camp he misses.

Because the Texans picked up the fifth-year option available on all first-round pick contracts, Hopkins technically has two seasons left on his deal. He also has a $445,000 roster bonus due Wednesday, the fifth day of camp, that he will miss out on if he hasn't returned by then.

Hopkins was a first-round pick in 2013, and the Texans extended their 2011 and 2012 first-round picks [J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus] as they entered their fourth seasons.

Le'Veon Bell Plans To Appeal Suspension In August

Jul 30, 2016 1:11 PM

Le'Veon Bell is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy by missing tests, but he plans to appeal the ruling.

Bell said he plans to appeal the suspension "sometime in August" and that he was notified of a missed test and his suspension in March.

Mike Tomlin confirmed that Bell's appeal will not be heard until the second week of August.

"I don't want to be a distraction to my teammates or to Steelers Nation," Bell added. "So I'm just going to keep moving forward and let everything handle itself."

The quarterback, who was in camp with the Philadelphia Eagles last summer but hasn't played in a regular season game since 2012, still believes he can play.

"I mean, for me, I'm in the best shape I've ever been in," Tebow said. "I'm still young, I still feel really good. So is that something that I feel like I can be an effective quarterback in the NFL? Yeah, I really do feel like I could be. But I think at the same time, there are a lot of other things that I'm doing that I love and that I'm blessed to do."

Emmanuel Sanders 'Not Trying To Break The Bank' In Contract Talks

Jul 29, 2016 3:59 PM

Emmanuel Sanders, who appears to be the next player on the verge of a contract extension with the Denver Broncos, says he isn't shooting for the stars.

"It's not frustrating. It's actually a blessing," Sanders said of the ongoing talks. "We're talking millions and millions of dollars that I can earn just by the game that I love. At the end of the day, I'm looking forward to it, but I know you guys want to know the answers to that, where are we at.

"We're trying to find that middle ground of saying, you know what, this is a fair deal for me and for the Denver Broncos. I said it from Day One -- I'm not trying to break the bank. I want to be here. But I also want a fair deal, and I want a fair deal for the production I've been putting out, so we'll see how it goes."

Sanders is entering the final year of the deal he signed in 2014, and is scheduled to make $5.6 million this season.
