Ike Taylor Unhappy About Taking $4.25M Pay Cut With Steelers

Sep 22, 2014 7:04 PM

Ike Taylor agreed to a $4.25 million pay cut to help the Pittsburgh Steelers create room under the salary cap, which he wasn't pleased with.

Taylor was scheduled to make $7 million in 2014 and will instead make $2.75 million.

"I'm pissed off about it, still am pissed off about it and I'm going to be pissed off until the end of the season about it," Taylor said of taking the pay cut. "Did it hurt me? Hell yeah. Does it still hurt? Yeah, it hurts, but hopefully I can go in and bounce back this year, do what I need to do on the field and we will see what happens after."

Eagles To Lose Lane Johnson For Four Games With PED Suspension

Oct 31, 2014 1:30 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without Lane Johnson for the first four games of the 2014 season after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Johnson missed just one snap in 17 games last season as a rookie right tackle.

The Eagles’ first four games are against Jacksonville (home), Indianapolis (away), Washington (home) and San Francisco (away).

The Eagles’ two best options as far as replacing Johnson for those first four games would be moving right guard Todd Herremans back out to right tackle, where he played eight games in 2012 before suffering a season-ending foot injury.

Erik Swoope On Transition From Basketball To Football With Colts

Nov 6, 2014 7:03 AM

Erik Swoope is ready to make the transition from basketball to tight end with the Indianapolis Colts.

Swoope didn't play football in any youth leagues, high school or at the University of Miami.

"Learning football terminologies has been the biggest challenge," Swoope said. "It's a different language. Trying to get myself, I'm not going to say forget about basketball, but take the terminology and set it to the side so I can really hone into the different languages used in football."

Swoope is 6'5, 220 pounds and has been catching passes from Andrew Luck in offseason workouts.

"Andrew makes it so easy," Swoope said. "You just have to make sure you do your stuff correct because he'll put the ball in the right place."

"It's been a pleasant surprise just to see how he's been able to acclimate himself to the game of football," Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said. "His natural-born talents show every day in practice. He does an amazing job of going up and catching the football, making difficult catches. He has a catching radius that's off the charts. It'll be interesting to see how he comes along during training camp when we put the pads on and actually start practicing football."

Newsome Would Like Ravens To Sign Ngata To Extension

Jul 6, 2014 1:23 AM

The Baltimore Ravens have already signed Terrell Suggs to an extension this offseason and Ozzie Newsome's other priority is to reach a similar deal with Haloti Ngata.

Ngata will become a free agent in 2015 if he doesn't sign an extension.

"We wanted two things from these contracts," Newsome said. "The first is to create some cap room and the other is to try and make sure these two players remained Ravens forever. We got 'Sizzle' done and we're still hopeful with Haloti."

Ravens Expect Vast Improvement On Offense

Sep 8, 2014 10:26 PM

The Baltimore Ravens had a difficult season on offense in 2013, dealing with the injury to Dennis Pitta and their trade of Anquan Boldin.

"It was tough for the offense, much more than we anticipated," Newsome told the Ravens' team site. "The lack of weapons really hurt at times."

"We'll be better on offense. I really like (offensive coordinator) Gary's (Kubiak) schemes," he added. "It's very precise. It's physical. I think we'll run the ball better, we'll keep the ball more and we'll have big plays. You can tell the players, especially guys like Joe (Flacco), like it -- and they can see that we have a good chance to be a lot better."

Browns To Use RB By Committee Approach

Jul 27, 2014 5:33 PM

The Cleveland Browns intend to use a running back by committee approach this season.

Ben Tate was signed in free agency, while they also have Terrance West and Dion Lewis.

"I think in the AFC North, you have to be running back by committee," Pettine said. "You'd like to have a guy that can carry most of the load, but also be able to alternate guys ... you've got to be able to get fresh legs out there."

Manziel Asked By Browns To 'Tone It Down'

Oct 6, 2014 1:58 PM

The Cleveland Browns would like Johnny Manziel to tone down his off the field profile.

In an Instagram video from June 15, you can hear Manziel say, "I can't hear you. I have too much money in my F------ hand."

"It did not sit well with the owner Jimmy Haslam, who did instruct his staff to at least have a talk with Johnny about being more savvy as he deals with social media," Mortensen said on ESPN's NFL Insiders via Cleveland.com. "We know you're young. We know you're single. Joe Montana himself said that Bill Walsh pulled him aside, and that was before the age of social media. Johnny Manziel has been told to tone it down, and to watch what goes up on social media."

DeSean Jackson Still Associates With Gang Members

Dec 6, 2014 3:23 AM

DeSean Jackson reiterated in an interview with ESPN that he is not in a gang and has never been in a gang, but he admitted that he still associates with gang members.

The Philadelphia Eagles released Jackson on March 28 and subsequently signed with Washington.

"If I score a touchdown or make a play and my boys at home can see me throwing up the area we're from, that's me showing them love," Jackson said. "They weren't fortunate enough to make it where I'm at. All my friends wanted to be in the NFL growing up, but they weren't able to do that, and I was. That doesn't mean I forgot about them. They're my boys, I grew up with them, and I'm going to give them love."

Montana: Seahawks Could Be On Verge Of Dynasty

Sep 3, 2014 11:42 AM

Joe Montana believes the Seattle Seahawks may be on the verge of a dynasty due to how the team is built.

Montana played nearly his entire career with the San Francisco 49ers, though the Seahawks were in the AFC during his era.

“I think they have the capability to. When you look at the way the team is put together, they’re young, they’re aggressive; their coach is very aggressive and upbeat. Anytime you can make going to work fun, even though you’re playing as I say ‘a stupid game for a living,’ it makes going to that facility every day really a joy. When you’re having fun at what you’re doing, you’re always a lot better at it.”
