Josh McCown is retiring from the NFL after 17 years.

McCown will turn 40 next month. He spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets.

"I guess it just goes to show that you don't always get to choose your own path," McCown wrote for The Players' Tribune. "But looking back, I'm proud of how my career has gone. I don't shy away from the journeyman label. I embrace it, full force.

"Because it's been one heck of a journey."

A few hours after the quarterback's decision went public, ESPN announced that McCown is joining ESPN as an NFL analyst. He will make his debut Wednesday on NFL Live.
