It has become tradition that the first game of the season is hosted by the defending Super Bowl champion, which means the 2017 opener will be at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts.

Roger Goodell typically attends the first game of the season, but the commissioner has seemingly avoided a New England Patriots' home game since Deflategate began during the 2014 postseason.

"I plan to be at the kickoff game," Goodell said.
