The Philadelphia Eagles have hired Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator.

Schwartz, who lives in Nashville, would have liked to join the Tennessee Titans, a source told ESPN's Paul Kuharsky, but Dick LeBeau is in line to return to head coach Mike Mularkey's staff.

Schwartz was Tennessee's defensive coordinator from 2001-08 after two seasons as a defensive assistant with the Titans.

Schwartz spent the 2015 season as an officiating consultant with the NFL but was Buffalo's defensive coordinator in 2014 under Doug Marrone.

Schwartz went 29-51 in five seasons (2009-13) as the Detroit Lions' head coach. The Lions had one winning season and made the playoffs once in his tenure.
