The New York Jets have hired Todd Bowles as head coach.

Bowles was one of the top coaching candidates this offseason following another successful season as defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals. The Jets also had Dan Quinn of the Seattle Seahawks high on their list and were prepared to offer the job to him had they been eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday.

Bowles will receive a four-year contract, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Bowles will join Mike Maccagnan to lead the Jets' new regime as they attempt to rebuild the franchise's credibility after a 4-12 record, its fourth consecutive non-winning season.
