Washington will start Robert Griffin III at quarterback whenever he's ready to return to game action.

Kirk Cousins has been inconsistent in his starts for Washington since Griffin dislocated his ankle.

“Once they say he’s healthy and he practices with us and we feel like he’s ready to go mentally and we have a good game plan for him, then he’ll be the starter,” Jay Gruden said. “But I don’t know when that will be yet. It’s hard for me to project. It could be one week, two weeks. It could be five weeks.”

Griffin returned to practice on Wednesday, and although he was limited to individual drills, it was his first significant step toward returning from the dislocated left ankle he suffered in Week 2.
