The San Francisco 49ers frequently feature a seven-linemen set, including Frank Gore's 23-yard touchdown in Week 1 against the Packers.

The 335-pound guard Leonard Davis was lined up at tight end and 308-pound center Daniel Kilgore was at wing back.

This gave Gore 2,260 pounds of offensive linemen to run behind.

“They know exactly where it’s going,” right guard Alex Boone said of defenses’ typical reaction. “Wherever (Leonard Davis is) going is pretty much where it’s going. We see that. They overload it all the time, but it’s like, ‘Hey, let’s see if you can stop it.’ “

Offensive coordinator Greg Roman is a big believer in the jumbo formation.

Davis logged 12 snaps at tight end, Kilgore played five snaps at wing back and 293-pound defensive tackle Will Tukuafu had six snaps at fullback, according to Pro Football Focus.

It is believed the beginning of Roman's use of the formation was when he spent a season between the Ravens and Stanford as the offensive coordinator at the high school he attended in New Jersey.

“Makes sense,” he said. “That’s high school football right there. I’m going to throw in my big boys. You throw in your big boys. And well see whose standing at the end of it.”
