Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Logan Ryan Retires

Apr 10, 2024 8:58 AM

Veteran defensive back Logan Ryan has announced his retirement.

Ryan played in six conference championship games and won two Super Bowl rings.

"I am officially retiring from the NFL," Ryan said in a video posted to X. "What a great career. What a ride it was. Beautiful journey of highs and lows, like they always are."

Ryan, 33, won two championships with the New England Patriots during his first four seasons in the league after the team selected him in the third round of the 2013 draft.

He also played for the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Francisco 49ers during his career.

Buccaneers, Randy Gregory Agree On One-Year Deal

Apr 3, 2024 6:49 PM

The Buccaneers agreed to terms with outside linebacker Randy Gregory on a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.

The move helps the Bucs fill a need at outside linebacker after the departure of Pro Bowler Shaquil Barrett -- who was released in a salary-cap-saving move and later signed with the Miami Dolphins this offseason -- but it doesn't preclude Tampa Bay from drafting a player at the position, as well.

Brock Purdy Collects From NFL Performance Pool

Apr 2, 2024 8:45 AM

The NFL has announced its annual performance-based pay distribution.

This year, the league compensated players an additional $393.8 million in performance-based pay for the 2023 season.

For San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, that resulted in an additional paycheck of $739,795, which comes out to 75.1% of the $985,000 base salary he made in 2023.

In his second NFL season, Purdy finished fourth in MVP voting. Because he isn't yet eligible for a lucrative contract extension, the performance-based pay incentive was the only way for him to earn extra compensation for his performance.

Speculation about Aiyuk's future with the team has persisted for more than a year and reached a crescendo this offseason as Aiyuk prepares for the final year on his rookie contract. That includes rumored trades all over the NFL map, including to Tomlin's Steelers.

49ers Penalized For 2022 Payroll Accounting Errors

Mar 18, 2024 10:03 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have forfeited a 2025 draft choice and were penalized four spots for a selection in this year's draft as a result of administrative payroll accounting errors, the NFL announced Monday.

The Niners will give up their original fifth-round choice in the 2025 draft and have their 2024 fourth-round selection move from No. 131 to No. 135.

"We take responsibility and accept the imposed discipline from the NFL due to a clerical payroll error," the Niners said in a statement. "At no time did we mislead or otherwise deceive the league or gain a competitive advantage in connection with the payroll mistake."

De'Vondre Campbell, 49ers Agree To One-Year Deal

Mar 16, 2024 7:18 PM

On their second swing at finding an experienced linebacker this week, the San Francisco 49ers landed on eight-year veteran De'Vondre Campbell.

Campbell and the Niners agreed to terms on a one-year deal Friday morning, a source told ESPN. That agreement comes a couple of days after the Niners thought they had linebacker Eric Kendricks poised to sign before Kendricks had a change of heart and opted for a deal with the Dallas Cowboys. Campbell is expected to sign after passing a physical.
